Subject: RE: BS: What has Happened to Freedom Of Speech ? From: beardedbruce Date: 06 Mar 07 - 11:01 AM Everyone here has freedom of speech- Unless you differ with the MUDCAT party line and don't blame Bush for all evil. Actually, Mudcat has a pretty loose control over censored topics. Most of us feel that the level of thread closing/editing is usually reasonable, and we comment if we see otherwise. "BS: Cammilla's Plan 'B'" is still there- but we have the free speech to be able to comment we find it offensive. |

Subject: RE: BS: What has Happened to Freedom Of Speech ? From: Bill D Date: 06 Mar 07 - 11:02 AM As several said, it was a bit beyond good taste, Jim.... 'freedom of speech' is never absolute in all situations. Best let the matter drop. |

Subject: RE: BS: What has Happened to Freedom Of Speech ? From: Jeri Date: 06 Mar 07 - 11:10 AM You mean: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievnces.? The US Congress made no law, the US government is not involved, so your alleged point is moot. |

Subject: RE: BS: What has Happened to Freedom Of Speech ? From: Peace Date: 06 Mar 07 - 11:23 AM I don't understand the purpose of this thread. Camilla is recovering from a hysterectomy. I hope the recovery is quick and complete. |

Subject: RE: BS: What has Happened to Freedom Of Speech ? From: John MacKenzie Date: 06 Mar 07 - 11:27 AM Jim if you'd said it about a Mudcat member like Jacqui C or Sinsull, for example, would you expect it to have remained unedited? If your answers as I expect is No, then it begs the question. By what right do you post comments like that against someone who has done you no harm whatsoever? Giok |

Subject: RE: BS: What has Happened to Freedom Of Speech ? From: beardedbruce Date: 06 Mar 07 - 12:03 PM to repeat in part my post ( 2nd on thread) Actually, Mudcat has a pretty loose control over censored topics. |

From: Amos Date: 06 Mar 07 - 12:32 PM Jim: Making obscure communications that assume someone will know what the feck you are on about, without the courtesy of a communication bridging from your own world to that of someone unfamiliar with it, is not a good way to get others to understand what the feck you are on about. A case in point would be starting a thread with a rip-roaring title like "Freedom of Speech" and then posting the word "Camilla" as your whole explanation. Does it occur to you that some poeple might not have been through all that you have, know all that you know, or think important all that you do? Come on, mate. Regards, A |

From: Peace Date: 06 Mar 07 - 12:36 PM "Jim if you'd said it about a Mudcat member like Jacqui C or Sinsull, would you expect it to have remained unedited?" That is a crap thing to say. They are neat people, but using them as an example like that implies that other neat people on Mudcat could have stuff said about them and it would matter less. Very unfortunate phrasing that will fuel further remarks about there being clones and friends of clones as one class and the great unwashed as another. |
