Subject: bumble bee Picks - Fantastic !!! From: Larkin Date: 24 Feb 07 - 12:09 PM Just got one of the Fred Kelly Bumble Bee picks from the music room - They are brilliant . A cross between a flat pick and a thumb pick but an improvement on both in my mind- anyone else use 'em and do they last ?? martin |

Subject: RE: bumble bee Picks - Fantastic !!! From: Scoville Date: 24 Feb 07 - 12:15 PM Bumble Bee pick. Never heard of such a thing. How does it work? (I mean--how is it both a thumb and a flat pick? That yellow thing doesn't look like it would go around your thumb.) |

Subject: RE: bumble bee Picks - Fantastic !!! From: Larkin Date: 24 Feb 07 - 01:30 PM It's a thumbpick with a light pick attached to it - means you can strum really easily and finger pick at the same time also gives a much nicer sound than a th/pick as the blade is thinner . The yellow thing goes round mine OK |

Subject: RE: bumble bee Picks - Fantastic !!! From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 24 Feb 07 - 03:00 PM I saw a similar thing about 20 years ago. It was a leather harness aparatus that worked with any standard-shape flatpick. Just slip the pick of your choice into the harness. The only person I ever saw use one was an Autoharp player who has since passed away. I don't even know if it was a commercially available item or something he had custom made by a leatherworker. |

Subject: RE: bumble bee Picks - Fantastic !!! From: Sugwash Date: 24 Feb 07 - 07:37 PM I got one this week and am impressed. I wouldn't say that they repalce a flat pick, but for doing a combination of finger-picking and flat picking the Bumble Bee is just the thing. Don't know how long they'll last; more than two days in my experience. |

Subject: RE: bumble bee Picks - Fantastic !!! From: Big Mick Date: 24 Feb 07 - 07:51 PM We have had other threads on these picks. I have been using them for what seems like 3 to 4 years now. I really enjoy using them and they have replaced all other thumbpicks for me. They come in several different thicknesses. The flat pick is slotted so it can be moved in or out so that you can make it more or less flexible. Many of my arrangements go from a fingerstyle to a rhythmic reel strum and back again. These things work wonderfully for me. I have one which I have been using for over 2 years. The end is worn, but it still works well. Highly recommended, IMO. Mick |

Subject: RE: bumble bee Picks - Fantastic !!! From: Mooh Date: 25 Feb 07 - 07:15 AM Ever since discovering Fred Kelly picks about three years ago I haven't used a National. I switch between the BumbleBee and the regular ones but prefer the BumbleBee. The local mom'n'pop music shop has a display of Fred Kelly picks, with both thumb and flat picks. Highly recommended. Peace, Mooh. |

Subject: RE: bumble bee Picks - Fantastic !!! From: Larkin Date: 25 Feb 07 - 08:10 AM It's the clarity of sound I like , you get a crispness that you don't get with a normal tpick-I bought three FK slick pick thumbpicks when i was in Japan some years ago and have used nothing else - i lost my last one recently and that prompted me to find out what the heck they were as all markings had worn off - that led me to try the Bumble bee . LOVE EM |
