It will take place at the home of Steve Shapiro, 7 - Trailside Court, New City,NY. The progran is entitled "A Tribute To The Working Man & Woman". Joe will tell us about the Labor Union movement in the US through Traditional folk songs as well as some of his own compositions. Admission is $20 per person which includes refreshments. Since this is a house concert we will require advance reservations so we know how much food and seating to prepare. You can e-mail me at solz@att.net or call me at 845-354-4586 for reservations and more information. I will e-mail the concert flyer to anyone who PMs me with their e-mail address. Those of you who have heard Joe perform know just how good he is. Those who have not heard him are in for a real treat.

By the way, I am especially honored to be asked to emcee this show because Joe Jencks is appearing. In my estimation, Joe is the next generation of troubadours - carrying on in the tradition of Joe Hill, Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger and Joe Glazer.

In addition to singing the songs of labor history, Joe Jencks has written some of the most stirring songs to come out of the labor movement. He also has a stunning voice - maybe the finest I've ever heard in folk music.   To top it all off, he engages his audience with his warm presence and delivery and educates while entertaining.   Don't miss this concert if you are in the area!!!

Everything Ron said! Joe Jencks is a "not to be missed" performer.

He was the 2005 grand prize winner of the Plowshares singer/songwriter contest in Phoenixville, PA and I was fortunate enough to hear him during the final competition, see him win, and attend his feature performance at the following year's Plowshares concert (that performance slot was part of his 2005 prize).

Wish I could attend this house concert to hear Joe again. Folks, if you can get there, do it! You'll kick yourself if you don't.

Sharon

Hi, my name is Ray Naylor, and I'm actually from Philadelphia. I happened to come across these comments when I was surfing the net re: Joe Jencks. I recorded a concert by Joe on April 7th at the Songwriter's Roundtable in Coudersport, PA, for my internet radio program. I thought some of you might be interested in hearing the concert. You can stream the concert or download the file by going to the following link: http://raynaylor.podhoster.com/

If interested, you can also check out Fiddles & Frets which is the 24 hour internet radio program on Live365: http://www.live365.com/stations/raynaylor

Hi Ray,
Would you happen to have this concert recorded on a CD ?

I have a slow dial-up connection to the internet and it would take me hours to download the full concert.

I just want to say "thank you" to Sol, Fay and everyone at the Borderline.   The house concert was wonderful. Joe Jencks is always superb. His warmth, knowledge and conviction are all on display when he performs. It was a great afternoon of music.

I understand that the Borderline will present Jed Marum on August 12 and I hope more Mudcatters will make plans to attend.   House concerts have become a very important tool in perpetuating folk music. As the clubs and coffeehouses grow larger and become more expensive to present concerts, the living rooms have become a stage to offer quality entertainment in an intimate setting.   The volunteers at Borderline do a superb job and I wish them all the best and congratulate them for what they have accomplished so far.

I have a couple of pictures from this concert as well as last Saturday's Mike Seeger concert at the Hurdy Gurdy posted on my website - www.ronolesko.blogspot.com

Thanks for your good words & good wishes & support. Each one of the attendees told us about what a wonderful time they had & were amazed about Joe's performance skills.
There are many fine young folk performers, but the audiences seem to be getting older.
Hopefully, with help from you & the other good folkies, we can attract a new generation of listeners to help perpetuate acoustic folk music.
We are looking forward to our next concert with Jed Marum on August 12. He will be doing a program on traditional Irish music & also his self-composed songs of the American Civil War.

Regards,

Fay Zeller
