Subject: RE: BS: Gibson J40 Or Gibson Lg1 From: John Hardly Date: 15 Feb 07 - 10:07 AM There seems to be some confusion about what a J-40 would be. In some cases it's sloped D (like a J-45) in most other cases it appears to be a full-blown, square-shouldered dreadnought. Either way, only because I know the inherent limitations of the ladder-braced LG-1 (it's quiet) I'd probably pick the bigger guitar as the more versatile, therefore the better choice. On the downside -- 71 is a notoriously bad year for Gibsons. Not that you can't find a good one from that era -- just that it's less likely. The LG-1 would be my choice for parlor guitar. |

Subject: RE: Gibson J40 Or Gibson Lg1 From: GUEST,Richard Date: 15 Feb 07 - 10:52 AM My brother had an early 70's J40 - a standard dreadnought shape. It was beautiful. Responsive, sweet and powerful, and played very easily. If it's like that one, go for it.Richard |
