Subject: BS: Happy Birthday Sandra in Sydney From: freda underhill Date: 10 Feb 07 - 11:51 PM While every birthday thread is special, this one celebrates a very special birthday for Sandra in Sydney. Sandra is one of the people at the hub of the folk scene in Sydney. She runs the Loaded Dog folk club , one of Sydney's longest running folk clubs. Every month Sandra showcases some of Australia's finest folk musicians, and occasionally some international acts. Sandra is renowned for being "most reliable audience"- she loves folk music and as well as running her own club, supports other venues either by assisting on the door or by enjoying the music. Sandra is also a talented seamstress and teddy-bear maker and collector. Sandra gives a lot to the folk music scene in Australia. But why is her birthday so special this year? Because she's freee at last - Sandra has quit working a government job and can now dedicate herself to more relaxation, music and life in general. HAPPY BIRTHDAY Sandra!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! freda |

Subject: RE: BS: Happy Birthday Sandra in Sydney From: JennyO Date: 11 Feb 07 - 02:12 AM Last night we had a lovely big party for Sandra, with lots of great food and drink and singing, as well as a birthday song that John wrote for her, to the tune of "Waltzing with Bears", and a number of pretty disreputable limericks. A good time was had by all! Anyway, here's your birthday banner, Sandra. |

Subject: RE: BS: Happy Birthday Sandra in Sydney From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 11 Feb 07 - 08:07 AM thankyou for your good wishes, folks. I've had a strange week - all week long I've been deleting documents (1267 one day!!), sending lots home (30+ emails one day, many of them bulk-forwarded documents!) & bringing stuff home (1 big box each Mon & Tues) & clearing up my toy-covered desk (wahhhhhh! so sad to pack toys & pictures into another big box). The small green dog is once again perched on top of my screen, obstructing bits of the menu (again!). Large sad-sack zebra sprawls in his usual spineless fashion beside my left elbow, instead of my right. The musos (fiddler octopus, tabby with mandolin, goateed beret-wearing Jazz muso with double bass - what a great band that is!) sit on a Mudcat CD shelf. Other stuff is still on the floor & in boxes. Stuff is everywhere & I still have a box to collect on Thursday. Where will it all fit? Thursday we had the afternoon tea & presentation of the most wonderful card in the world, made by my talented colleague Sonja & a necklace of Roman Glass beads (my first antiquity!!), then the farewell lunch on Friday, finally party preparations & party on Saturday. After all that my actual birthday (Sunday) was almost unremarked. I went to the Craft show & bought a few more little goodies, then came home to the mess, put a bit away, & re-arranged a few deckchairs. Can't put it all away til I get the final box!! Those who have gone before me say it takes a while to get into retired mode, but one day I too will wonder how I ever had time to do anything while I was still working. sandra |

Subject: RE: BS: Happy Birthday Sandra in Sydney From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 11 Feb 07 - 09:58 PM Judy, I celebrated not going to work by not setting the alarm! Naturally I slept far longer than my back likes & it was very sore when I woke. There must be a better way of gettingt more zzzzzzzzzz's than that! And no, I don't need a better mattress - this one is very new & very comfortable, but ... Today I had brekkie at noon, read a bit, & decided to finally look at the CD of pics from my farewell lunch. Alas, only 1 pic on the whole CD, but it's a lovely pic of the stained glass in the pub! I'll have to return it Thursday when I see the camera owner & get a new copy of the pics which he assured me were fantastic. Alba, thank you for the lovely greeting in one of my favourite colours. My birthday was certainly "like none that have gone before." I normally just have a small lunch with friends, the only party I've ever had since I was very young was a picnic in the park when I was 40. sandra |
