Subject: RE: La Jolla/San Diego Sea Music? From: Amos Date: 07 Feb 07 - 06:17 PM The Maritime Museum, down at the waterfront by the Star of India, nee EUterpe, often has chanty singers about. As for other possible sites, here's a list of possibilities. Regards, A |

Subject: RE: La Jolla/San Diego Sea Music? From: em gunyou halaas Date: 08 Feb 07 - 10:21 AM Nope. Just my name: Emily Gunyou. It's a French Canadian name that had a very different spelling until an American Emigration Office changed it. Gun-you. Apparently there is a Gunyou Street in Montriel. Spelled properly of course. |

Subject: RE: La Jolla/San Diego Sea Music? From: bet Date: 08 Feb 07 - 03:15 PM Keep checking. A few years ago I posted a similar question. The result was a gathering at Balboa Park with some great music and I think they kept it up for several more meeting. bet |

Subject: RE: La Jolla/San Diego Sea Music? From: Amos Date: 08 Feb 07 - 03:43 PM We do gather in the Park every month or three to do some jamming, old timey stuff mostly, and if you're in town for one of these you're more than welcome to come along and sit in. If you PM me your email address I will see you get an email when we plan the next one. A |

Subject: RE: La Jolla/San Diego Sea Music? From: Joe Offer Date: 08 Feb 07 - 05:12 PM A few years back, as I walked by the Star of India, a clipper ship on display in the harbor at San Diego, I heard a familiar voice singing sea chanteys. It was my friend Dick Holdstock - but it was a recording. I didn't have much luck finding a regularly-scheduled chantey sing in San Diego, but it seemed to me that the Star of India would be a perfect place for it. I did find a nice song circle near Santee, and there's something going regularly up north, near Encinitas. -Joe- |
