Hello Mudcatters!

It's quite early for this, but I'm going to be in La Jolla this summer for a ew months and want to find/see/participate in some sea music. Anyone know where I might find some?

The Maritime Museum, down at the waterfront by the Star of India, nee EUterpe, often has chanty singers about. As for other possible sites, here's a list of possibilities.

Regards,

A

Thanks Amos! I think probably closer to time I'll be able to find some stuff. Just checking it out.

Is your membership name related to your interest in sea music? I'm still trying to puzzle it out and not coming up with much of anything.

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

Amos is also one of the famous sites in the San Diego area, or so I hear tell! Why, just last month a man travelled from Idaho to see and hear Amos!

Nope. Just my name: Emily Gunyou. It's a French Canadian name that had a very different spelling until an American Emigration Office changed it. Gun-you. Apparently there is a Gunyou Street in Montriel. Spelled properly of course.

Yes, he did, but he thought it was for something else, you see.

I see. Shall I sent a hunting party after Amos, then?

Keep checking. A few years ago I posted a similar question. The result was a gathering at Balboa Park with some great music and I think they kept it up for several more meeting.

We do gather in the Park every month or three to do some jamming, old timey stuff mostly, and if you're in town for one of these you're more than welcome to come along and sit in.

If you PM me your email address I will see you get an email when we plan the next one.

A few years back, as I walked by the Star of India, a clipper ship on display in the harbor at San Diego, I heard a familiar voice singing sea chanteys. It was my friend Dick Holdstock - but it was a recording. I didn't have much luck finding a regularly-scheduled chantey sing in San Diego, but it seemed to me that the Star of India would be a perfect place for it.
I did find a nice song circle near Santee, and there's something going regularly up north, near Encinitas.
