Subject: Review: Seamus Kennedy From: Peace Date: 23 Jan 07 - 08:52 AM Last night I had the pleasure for the first time of listening to some work done by Seamus--three of his CDs. 1) He has a beautiful voice 2) He can be a very funny man 3) "The Scottish Song" had me smiling and chuckling for an hour 4) In amongst the humour beats the heart of a true romantic 5) He has exceptional taste in music and a great ear 6) Because of him I know that God lives in New Jersey and gets really pissed off if anyone insults the State 7) I am now a fan Sometime I hope to see him perform. Would those of you who have had the experience care to post about it? There must be something quite remarkable about this 'larger than life' guy on the stage. I don't know if or when you'll read this, Seamus, but thank you for an introduction to a wonderful guy doing wonderful songs. I'm a bit ticked that at least one of the CDs wasn't autographed, but perhaps we will rectify that oversight in person somewhere down the road. All the best to you, buddy. |

Subject: RE: Review: Seamus Kennedy From: MMario Date: 23 Jan 07 - 09:03 AM Seamus "live" fulfills all the promise of 'larger then life' that you sense in the CD's. Not only a great voice, but a variety of styles; extremely responsive to his audience, generous and genuine. and tolerant of the people sitting in the audience bellowing along... |

Subject: RE: Review: Seamus Kennedy From: bfdk Date: 23 Jan 07 - 09:25 AM I had the pleasure back in August of last year, when I attended a fun-packed musical weekend chez Sinsull up in Portland, Maine. I had an excellent time, and remembering back will even today make me grin from ear to ear at the fond and funny memories. Before going there Seamus was an unknown quantity to me, but he certainly isn't anymore. He's a performer par excellence and held the audience in a vice-like grip, wringing every last guffaw of laughter out of every one of us through a three set performance which lasted several hours, and the man just never seemed to tire. Check the audience mug-shots :-)) Best wishes, Bente |

Subject: RE: Review: Seamus Kennedy From: wysiwyg Date: 23 Jan 07 - 09:27 AM Yes, but looking at "a-03-nhjaysus-ns.jpg," his grip seems to have had a rough result. ~Susan |

Subject: RE: Review: Seamus Kennedy From: bfdk Date: 23 Jan 07 - 09:31 AM Ah, no.. He (the by now famous Nearly-Headless-Jaysus) was delivered like that - in the dead of night, too :-) Seamus may have been getting up to a lot of things, but he was innocent on that particular score :o) |

Subject: RE: Review: Seamus Kennedy From: wysiwyg Date: 23 Jan 07 - 09:35 AM Hardi can't stand him, either. Seamus' chick-songs have spoiled me for date nights, now, entirely, too; it's Hardi who suffers the consequences. ~Susan |

Subject: RE: Review: Seamus Kennedy From: alanabit Date: 23 Jan 07 - 09:45 AM Seamus kindly sent me CDs a couple of years back and I have enjoyed them immensely. The material is well chosen and delivered with panache throughout. I also love Adam MacNaughton's "The Scottish Song", which I believe has also appeared on Mudcat. It is an inspired bit of lunacy by a teacher! I'll be checking out the gig if Seamus is ever in my neck of the woods too. |

Subject: RE: Review: Seamus Kennedy From: kendall Date: 23 Jan 07 - 09:54 AM The complete performer. The man can do everything...and damn well too. |

Subject: RE: Review: Seamus Kennedy From: DonMeixner Date: 23 Jan 07 - 01:18 PM I've shared stages with Seamus through out New York and parts of Pennsylvania for years. He is generous and helpful besides being a great performer and musician. If I were booking a show he would be on the short list. Don |

Subject: RE: Review: Seamus Kennedy From: SINSULL Date: 23 Jan 07 - 03:58 PM My fondest memory of Seamus is at the breakfast table next morning. He was like Robin Williams on speed. I laughed until it hurt and he still wouldn't stop. My neighbors (who came from blocks away) want to know when he will return. Then of course there is his music. SINS |

Subject: RE: Review: Seamus Kennedy From: artbrooks Date: 23 Jan 07 - 06:15 PM He has REALLY UGLY knees and should be the subject of a lifetime ban on wearing kilts. Other than that, he has no faults whatsoever. And he takes requests. |

Subject: RE: Review: Seamus Kennedy From: Big Jim from Jackson Date: 23 Jan 07 - 09:16 PM A couple of years ago I spent two delightful days watching Seamus charm the attendees of a festival in Memphis (180 miles, one way) He did both adult and kid sets, three or four sets each day, and I visited with him during the intermissions between sets. He has to be one of the very best performers I have had the pleasure of seeing, and I've seen a few. I missed seeing him in Kansas City last summer and I still haven't gotten over the disapointment. I'm hoping to accompany him on one of his tours to Ireland in the not too distant future. I've got all my fingers and toes crossed for that one. (That sure makes it hard to play!) If Seamus Kennedy comes within 150 miles of you, GO!!!!!! |

Subject: RE: Review: Seamus Kennedy From: SINSULL Date: 23 Jan 07 - 10:09 PM This is the same Seamus Kennedy who, as a tornado hit the festival where he was performing, grabbed his guitar and started to flee before he realized that it was his job to calm the crowd? Good man grabbing his guitar first. |

Subject: RE: Review: Seamus Kennedy From: ranger1 Date: 24 Jan 07 - 07:47 AM Not only is he an excellent performer and a very funny man, he also let me flick the lima beans from my bowl of stew into his. Now that is a very fine thing to do, indeed! I want a bumper sticker that says: "Seamus Kennedy ate my lima beans!" And my significant other raved about him for at least a month to anyone who would listen, which, for those who know Jason, is really something! |

Subject: RE: Review: Seamus Kennedy From: freightdawg Date: 24 Jan 07 - 07:16 PM The man shared the stage with John Denver. Nothing more needs to be said...except he puts on a great show and whatever you pay to get in, the show is worth more. Freightdawg |

Subject: RE: Review: Seamus Kennedy From: DonMeixner Date: 26 Jan 07 - 11:59 AM You know that Seamus is just sitting back soaking up the adoration as he rereads this thread over and over and over. I like the guy well enough and I admit it openly but hells bells kids, he's no Gerry Timlin. Don |
|
Subject: RE: Review: Seamus Kennedy From: DannyC Date: 26 Jan 07 - 12:19 PM That Timlin fella is another one. When he first got in from Coalisland, he lodged with my Uncle Jerry (may he RIP) until the incomer got a bit of traction under him. I first heard him at a expansive family party (I think it might have been the Fourth of July, 1976) in the car park of the pub adjacent to my barman uncle's humble rooms. The town was exploding for the Bicentennial... Timlin provided a small band. At last he proclaimed thru the mic: "That's enough now of the American Revolution, here's a few songs of the Irish Revolution!" and, to our delight, launched into "Irish Soldier Laddy". Made a wonderful job of it. O' course, that was then and this is now... |

Subject: RE: Review: Seamus Kennedy From: GUEST,Alaska Mike Date: 31 Jan 07 - 05:53 PM I recently spent 7 days with Seamus as a guest/performer on the Carnival Miracle as we sailed to Grand Caymans, Cozumel, Belize and Costa Maya in the western Carribean. Not only were we blown away by Seamus´ stage craft, but got to share more music each night in after hour sessions that went on well into the early hours each night. I´ve known Seamus Kennedy for over 10 years and believe he is the best entertainer I know. The guy has recorded 2 of my songs, so he has great taste in music also. There will be another cruise next January for those of you who might be the tiniest bit envious. Come join the fun in 2008. Tawmmie and I are currently finishing up our vacation in Isla Margarita off the north coast of Venezuela. The sun is hot and the beer is cold and the people here are very nice. Back to Alaska too soon. Alaska Mike |
