Subject: Lyr Add: MY BONES GONNA RISE AGAIN From: 12-stringer Date: 08 Mar 07 - 02:55 PM Chorus: I knowed it, knowed it, indeed I knowed it, sister I knowed it, knowed it, my bone's gonna rise again. I asked my gal to ride with me (My bone's gonna rise again) She got right upon my knee (My bone's gonna rise again) We had a good time that night till three (My bone's gonna rise again) But I never will be what I used to be (My bone's gonna rise again). Me and my wife went down to the lake We eat hotdogs and chocolate cake My wife sat down on a long blacksnake When she got up it was too darn late. A hen and a rooster on the pole so hot A romping and a playing all in their lot The rooster looked at the hen's top knot, Said "Come here, sister, let's see what you got." One day I went out to get A billygoat whose name was Pet And one day that goat I met Right on the place where I used to set. Dave (McCarn) & Howard (Long), "My Bone's Gonna Rise Again." Victor 23577, recorded 19 May 1931, Charlotte, NC. I only know this from an LP dub, not the original shellac, but Tony Russell's CMR 1921-1942 indicates the apostrophe is sic in the 78 title label. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: These Bones Gonna Rise Again From: Azizi Date: 27 Sep 09 - 01:59 PM Here's an interesting comment about this spiritual: "I thumbed through the book I came across this song [These Bones Gonna Rise Again], which is an old spiritual tune. Something resonated with me as I tried singing it, and the history of the song sounded intriguing. The song had been performed with comic intent for a long time, and was often performed as a parody by university students in the first part of the 20th century."... http://www.jack-cooper.com/oldsite/bones.html ** Here's a link to a YouTube video of this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xnGHWcrk4oQ The Seekers These Bones Are Gonna Rise Again |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: These Bones Gonna Rise Again From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 27 Sep 09 - 02:29 PM There are questions about this rather theatrical song, another version in the DT, linked at the top of this thread, having ever part of the old spiritual songs. It does not seem to be one of the old spirituals, but originally a minstrel jubilee song, like some composed by Bland (Scott composition posted above, 1880). The one from Saint Helena (posted today), "O Lord, dese bones of mine," and the "Dry Bones" in the DT, from "Mellows," coll. by Kennedy, are typical of those sung in the Black churches and are spirituals in the old sense. Of course both Blacks and Whites, as entertainers, and gospel singers, long ago adopted "Dese Bones...," so it is now a religious as well as a 'popular' song, and included in collections of spiritual songs. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: These Bones Gonna Rise Again From: GUEST,Sharon Date: 30 Dec 10 - 05:02 PM Chorus: This I know by the Bible These old bones are gonna rise again These old bones are gonna rise again These old bones are gonna rise again Ezekiel said it in the Bible chapter 37:10, These old bones are gonna wake up walking These old bones are gonna rise again. Verse: 1. My dear brother faint and feeble My dear sister weak and worn We're gonna wind up in the bone yard Just as sure as we were born This old world may toss and tumble This old world may rock and roll But come that Resurrection morning We are gonna take a stroll. 2. Now in that Resurrection valley When the Lord commands the way And He breathes new life eternal In these old bones again All the saints will wake up singing And we'll all join in the victory throng To a land beyond the river To a life that has no end. |
