Subject: RE: Lyr Req: We Ran Them Out From: Paul Burke Date: 20 Dec 06 - 03:31 AM Is it related to Offenbach's Beaux Gendarmes? We're public guardians bold yet wary And of ourselves we take good care To risk our precious lives we're chary When danger threatens we're not there But when we see a helpless woman Or little boys who do no harm… We run them in, we run them in We run them in, we run them in To show them we're the beaux gendarmes When young men like to make a riot And punch each other's heads at night We are disposed to keep it quiet Provided that they make it right But if they do not seem to see it Or give to us our proper alms… We run them in, we run them in We run them in, we run them in To show them we're the beaux gendarmes Sometimes our duty's extramural Then little butterflies we chase We like to gambol in things rural Commune with nature face to face But when we go back to our duties Refreshed by Nature's holy charms… We run them in, we run them in We run them in, we run them in To show them we're the beaux gendarmes __________________ |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: We Ran Them Out From: Warsaw Ed Date: 20 Dec 06 - 03:51 PM Bullseye Paul!! I later found what I was looking for in my External hard drive. The song is "Two Men At Arms - We Run Them In" The Offenbach sheet music can be found in the Leter S. Levy collection. I sequenced it in NoteWorthy Composer and MIDI. And there are two Mudcat threads with lyrics. Look under Bold Gendarmes and Gendarmes Duet. The exact song I was looking for is a medley of Delaney's Donkey and Two Men At Arms. I have a recording [mp3] by unknown artists taken from an Irish Radio Site. It is sung by Anthony Kearns [of the Irish Tenors] and Patrick Healy at many concerts under the Title "The Bould Gendarmes" but I haven't been able to find their recording [if there is one]. There are a number of web sites concerning the Offenbach melody [from Genevieve De Braabant] as the basis for the Marine's Hymn. Thanks again Paul. Ed |
