Subject: Folksongs in 'Schultze Gets the Blues' From: Bat Goddess Date: 04 Dec 06 - 03:53 PM It's not a specifically music oriented film, but it does have the main character switch his allegience from polkas to Cajun. We just watched the German film "Schultze Gets the Blues" -- early in the film (when Schultze is retiring from working in the mines) he's serenaded with a salt mining folk song (which was actually translated in the subtitles!) -- and I'd like t know more about it. Is it authentic? Where can I get a recording, words, etc.? The last piece of music in the film is a brass band (in Germany -- after his trip to Texas) playing a tune that seems very familiar. It's similar to George Ward's river song (can't remember the title) about "if it doesn't lift your spirits it will leave you numb". Anybody know anything about the soundtrack? Linn |
