Subject: RE: Chords / Lyrics: John Williamson Songs From: Jim Dixon Date: 18 Nov 06 - 09:34 AM Here's John Williamson's web site. He has posted lyrics, chords, and sound samples for a list of 20 songs, but unfortunately not the ones you requested. THE BUSH BARBER appears on "Home among the Gum Trees," 1984; and his 2-CD "best of" album "True Blue." BUSH TOWN appears on "Laugh Along," 1998; and on "True Blue" where it's called BUSH TOWN (THE LAWNMOWER SONG). Is that the song you want? This information might not help much, but at least it will serve to refresh the thread. |

Subject: RE: Lyr ADD: Bush Barber, etc (John Williamson) From: cnd Date: 06 Sep 15 - 11:36 PM BUSH TOWN (THE LAWNMOWER SONG) (John Williamson) I do like a walk on ol' Bush Town; I been down every lane and street For the roses and gnomes of all those homes and the familiar faces you meet To see an old man in a huge back yard with a grand-kid on his knee With a hose on the carrot and rhubarb and an eye on the grass ?Loosie? To feel the crunch of the cut dry grass with the smell of the pepper corn Two sneakish light feet while the dog's asleep so your sheep go *pht*in on the morn Hear the ?jock? go *spaick* or the turkey go *hbdldl* and the mower go *pvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvt* *pblblbl* *pblblbl**pblbl* *pvvv* These are the many pleasures of the town where I was born I do like a walk on ol' Bush Town; had a counter lunch at the pub I prick my ears for stories when I shop around in the scrub Like One-Foot Phil from One-Tree Hill who tried to pull my leg He tried to chop that lonely tree down to make his wooden peg What's your story Gary? (Instrumental) I do like a walk on ol' Bush Town; I been down every gully and hill See RDK and her old FJ, gee time is standing still Hear the ?jock? go *spaick* or the turkey go *hbdldl* and the mower go *pvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvt* *pblblbl* *pblblbl**pblblvvv* *pblblpvvv* *pblbl* *pblbl* Some things never change and I hope they never will |

Subject: Lyr Add: THE BUSH BARBER (John Williamson) From: Jim Dixon Date: 09 Sep 15 - 02:41 PM My transcription from YouTube: THE BUSH BARBER Written by John Williamson As recorded by John Williamson on "True Blue: The Very Best of John Williamson" (2003) 1. Just an old man in a bush town in an old barber shop, Recalling the days of the old razor strop, When he solved all your problems while clipping your hair, Then he'd flip you right back in his beautiful chair— 2. With a few slaps of leather, he'd shave you off clean. Through your foamy white face, his cutthroat was keen, Then it was all over with a splash and a sting. You were back on the street feelin' fit for the king. CHORUS: He said: "Longhairs and skinheads have buggered this game. Remember the days when we all looked the same. That mug called Ringo and his mates, they're to blame, But I guess I'm wastin' my breath on you, sonny." 3. Well, he followed the horses as part of the job. If you backed all his tips, you might make a few bob. With pictures of Phar Lap all over the wall, And of course Donald Bradman, the greatest of all. CHORUS 4. "Young people these days don't have the pride. Grooming and manners have taken a slide." Well, the world to the old man has gone a bit strange, So I bought a few Tally-Ho's and tipped him the change. LAST CHORUS: He said longhairs and skinheads had ruined his game. Remember the days when we all looked the same. That fella called Ringo and his mates are to blame, And he was wastin' his breath on me, sonny. REPEAT LAST CHORUS ENDING WITH: "And I guess I'm wastin' my breath on you, sonny." Also recorded by Neil Ward on "Raining on the Rock: Aussie Bush and Folk Ballads" (1994), which can be heard on Spotify. Only a few words are different. |

Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Bush Barber, etc (John Williamson) From: GUEST Date: 14 Feb 17 - 02:21 AM To all who answered; my apologies for tardiness: Various issues (too many to mention) have kept me away from the Mudcat. However, I wish to thank everyone who contributed - especially "cnd" who tried to make sense of the Lawnmower Song. It was that "sneaky feet etc" line I could never decipher. I have written it all down now but still need to find chords for both songs. However, for future reference, here's the amended lyrics to The Lawnmower Song. BUSH TOWN (THE LAWNMOWER SONG) (John Williamson) I do like a walk in an old Bush Town; up and down every lane and street For the roses and gnomes and bull-nosed homes and familiar faces you meet To see an old man in a huge back-yard with a grand-kid on his knee With a hose on the carrot and rhubarb and an eye on the Grosse Lizzie To feel the crunch of the cut, dry grass and the smell of the peppercorn Two sneaky light feet while the dog's asleep and the sheep do a *pht'n* on the lawn Hear the chooks go *blurck* or the turkey go *[gobble]* and the mower go *pvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvt* *pblblbl* *pblblbl* *pblblpvvv* These are the many pleasures of the town where I was born I do like a walk in an old Bush Town; have a counter-lunch at the pub I prick my ears for stories as I shop around the scrub Like One-Foot Phil from One-Tree Hill who tried to pull my leg He chopped that lonely tree down to make his wooden peg (Yeah, pull the other one What's your story Harry? ) (Instrumental) I do like a walk in an old Bush Town; up and down every gully and hill See Aunty Kaye in her old FJ; Gee time is standing still Hear the chooks go *blurck* and the turkey go *[gobble]* and the mower go *pvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvt* *pblblbl* *pblblbl* *pblblpvvv* *pblblbl* *pblblbl* *pblblvvv* *pblbl* *pblblpvvv* *pblbl* *pblbl* *pblblpvvv* *pblbl* *pblblpvvv* *pblbl*/*pblbl*/*pblbl* Ar Stuff it! Some things never change and I hope they never will By the way - I LOVED the mower, chook and turkey interpretations! |

Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Bush Barber, etc (John Williamson) From: GUEST,Muttley Date: 04 Feb 19 - 05:37 AM Hey 'catters it's been a long while thanks to an illness that nearly cost me my leg, an ice-addicted child, two parental deaths and finally a wife who suddenly decided she no longer wished to be married and that I was "surplus to requirements" - - - and hence a divorce, homelessness etc. fun Times. So has ANYONE got the chords to those two songs??? |
