Subject: Pick this! (Guitar hybrid of sorts) From: katlaughing Date: 11 Oct 06 - 05:13 AM Keep an open mind and have fun watching. This came to me from our own Night Owl who saw it on PBS. Intriguing and horribly fascinating after you get over the initial creepiness.:-) Click Here |

Subject: RE: Pick this! (Guitar hybrid of sorts) From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 11 Oct 06 - 07:14 AM Thanks for putting that up, kat. The other clips are interesting too, but that one is really pretty charming. I'd like to see it extended. And it sounds good too. (I had to download the file before Windows Media Player would play it, rather than just click on it to play.) |

Subject: RE: Pick this! (Guitar hybrid of sorts) From: Scoville Date: 11 Oct 06 - 09:18 AM Looks like one of those old arcade machines with the banjo in it--you put in a coin and the little "claws" would pick you a tune. |

Subject: RE: Pick this! (Guitar hybrid of sorts) From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 11 Oct 06 - 09:50 AM YouTube has some brilliant stuff if you hunt it out. Thanks Tunesmith, and kat. |

Subject: RE: Pick this! (Guitar hybrid of sorts) From: Kaleea Date: 11 Oct 06 - 01:33 PM I did hear it on Youtube, thanks. Very interesting & nice sound. My shortly to be 2 yr old niece saw it & yelled "lay-lay," her word for all stringed instruments since I have 2 "oo-koo-lay-lays"--aka-ukuleles |

Subject: RE: Pick this! (Guitar hybrid of sorts) From: Bill D Date: 11 Oct 06 - 02:35 PM I have heard of 'muddle pluckers', but this is the first one I ever saw. ;>) |

Subject: RE: Pick this! (Guitar hybrid of sorts) From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 11 Oct 06 - 04:14 PM The other ones are pretty interesting too, though of the ones I've seen the multi-plucking one is the one I like best. That first link kat gave - here - only has relatively brief samples, as against the YouTube link Tunesmith gave, but it gives details about getting the DVDs as well. Great Christmas presents, I'd say. |

Subject: RE: Pick this! (Guitar hybrid of sorts) From: katlaughing Date: 11 Oct 06 - 04:16 PM LOL...that's exactly what Night Owl said, McGrath. She started telling me a list of Mudcatters whom she thought should get it as a holiday gift. |

Subject: RE: Pick this! (Guitar hybrid of sorts) From: Helen Date: 11 Oct 06 - 07:41 PM On the email Harplist someone gave us a link to one of those - I'm sure it was the same site - which had a harp with a weird ethereal sound. Helen |

Subject: RE: Pick this! (Guitar hybrid of sorts) From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 11 Oct 06 - 07:55 PM If you work through the links in the animusic site and the YouTube fuller version, there are umpteen video clips to try. The one Helen mentioned is probabaly in there somewhere. |

Subject: RE: Pick this! (Guitar hybrid of sorts) From: Don Firth Date: 11 Oct 06 - 08:17 PM Amazing! I saw it a week or so back on my local PBS station when they needed something to fill in between shows, and they've shown a few more a couple of times since. Looks "insectile" and kind of creepy. But fascinating. Don Firth |
