Subject: BS: Gift Ideas--Can't Live Without...(?) From: JenEllen Date: 04 Oct 06 - 02:05 PM In talk with a 'Catter, we discussed having a list of "Things We Can't Live Without" for the year. I suppose it's timely, with the holidays coming and all, to maybe share some ideas and where to find 'em for the folks on your lists. I'll start: Good Book to Rev Up Conversation Bowling Alone by Robert Putnam. (I've also seen that Felicia Wu Song has one out too, in the same vein, Bowling Alone But Online Together: Virtual Communities and American Public Life but I can't see spending $70 for a paperback. *bg*) You can get it at Amazon. Good Stuff for the Kitchen: Cape Herb Grinders I am totally gone for the Magic Mushrooms Grinder, and the Cinnamon Sugar Grinder has a solid place in my heart. Fabulous and versatile. My late summer favorite was a sliced fresh peach with a twist of the C/S on it. Yum. You can get them dirt cheap from the Chelsea website. Good Stuff for Your Ears: With the festival organizing and all, I heard a LOT of music this year and not all of it was good. *bg* Two that buried the needle on my cool-shit-o-meter were Brendan Wires and Colin Spring Both great musicians and genuinely nice folk. You can buy directly from the websites and I don't think anyone will be disappointed. Your turn...... |

Subject: RE: BS: Gift Ideas--Can't Live Without...(?) From: wysiwyg Date: 04 Oct 06 - 04:36 PM Swimsuits. I burn through at least 3 a year and it's so hard to find any I LIKE that aren't harder to get into and out of than the 3-hour daily aqua-jogging! So I'm going the easy way now-- an elastic-waist skirt in a stretchy polyester knit, pulled up under my arms and then cut to the right hip-skimming length. If the men get crazy because there are no straps, tough effin' noogies! ~Susan |

Subject: RE: BS: Gift Ideas--Can't Live Without...(?) From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 04 Oct 06 - 04:54 PM Nothing really. Aside from food and drink and shelter. Lots of things I might miss, but that's not the same. As for pressies, can't beat the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency; or, especially for people with cold feet or aches and pains, here's a suggestion. (The rabbit is the best one.) |

Subject: RE: BS: Gift Ideas--Can't Live Without...(?) From: Tig Date: 04 Oct 06 - 06:31 PM I've just bought my dad a pair of hens for his 86th birthday! I was looking for something just that little bit different and since I couldn't afford him a cow or a goat the hens seemed just right. They are the first pair in a 'pyramid'. Check out www.sengweraid.co.uk - it's run by Gill Pirt (Graham Pirt from Cockersdale's wife and Sam's Mum) |

Subject: RE: BS: Gift Ideas--Can't Live Without...(?) From: JenEllen Date: 04 Oct 06 - 07:29 PM Yeah, it's all good. I've been learning 'Wicked Ways' (go figure!) and lovin' it. WYS--the best suit I ever found was at Land's End. You can hit their clearance site about now and get some great deals. I am a HUGE fan of the 'Tankini'. The fit is great--getting out of the top is like wrassling a bear sometimes--but if you have to spend extended time in a suit, it's the one to wear. |
