Subject: BS: Tried & Tested Hangover Cures From: Louisey Date: 01 Oct 06 - 04:56 AM I overdid the wine a bit last night. Well, a lot. So what are your recommended hangover cures?... |

Subject: RE: BS: Tried & Tested Hangover Cures From: Rasener Date: 01 Oct 06 - 05:41 AM Bacon, Egg, Sausage, Tomatoes, Baked Beans, Fried Bread with loads of coffee to hiold it down. When I was very fit, many many years ago, I would play squash with a hangover. The first game was always a bit iffy, but it was amazing how the hangover went after that. Thoroughly recommend it. |

Subject: RE: BS: Tried & Tested Hangover Cures From: MBSLynne Date: 01 Oct 06 - 06:32 AM Oh Louise! Every time I see you, you seem to end up with a hangover the next day! It can't be my fault can it?? Best thing is to avoid the hangover by drinking at least a pint of water before you go to bed. I haven't had a hangover since I started doing so. There is also 'hair-of-the-dog' which really just involves going out and getting p---ed again. Love Lynne |

Subject: RE: BS: Tried & Tested Hangover Cures From: Divis Sweeney Date: 01 Oct 06 - 06:45 AM Don't drink nowadays, but fizzy vitamin c tablets from the chemist worked a treat for me. |

Subject: RE: BS: Tried & Tested Hangover Cures From: Louisey Date: 01 Oct 06 - 07:17 AM Lynne - It is getting to be a bit of a habit isn't it?! There's always the hair of the dog option available at the Oakthorpe session tonight, but I can only imagine how bad Monday will be! Crisps and vitamin C (and a game of squash?!) it is then... |

Subject: RE: BS: Tried & Tested Hangover Cures From: GUEST Date: 01 Oct 06 - 11:41 AM I have always been partial to bread fried in bacon grease topped with a few dollops of raw yogourt. If you find that not to your taste, try two slightly-underdone pork chops, but let them cool a bit first. |

|
Subject: RE: BS: Tried & Tested Hangover Cures From: alanabit Date: 01 Oct 06 - 11:47 AM I can drink very little these days. I usually drink an equal measure of water for every beer I drink, or a double measure of water for every glass of wine I drink. Some fatty food before I go to bed also helps, although it only compounds the difficulty of keeping one's weight under control... The pre-emptive approach seems to work best! |

Subject: RE: BS: Tried & Tested Hangover Cures From: GUEST Date: 01 Oct 06 - 11:49 AM You wouldn't have had a hangover if you'd just stuck to Muscatel. |

Subject: RE: BS: Tried & Tested Hangover Cures From: gnomad Date: 01 Oct 06 - 11:58 AM Sit underneath a tree.........oh no, that one's for seasickness, sorry. Grapefruit juice & tonic water mixed 50/50, plus alka-seltzer or equivalent. Eat dry toast. You could sit under the tree as well, it won't hurt and the shade may make your eyes feel better. |

Subject: RE: BS: Tried & Tested Hangover Cures From: Bill D Date: 01 Oct 06 - 12:34 PM 12-14 years ago, my doctor wrote me a prescription for Pepcid.. FamotidineFamotidine (before it was over-the-counter). He said that some executives at Merck were using their own product and going out to dinner, having drinks, and having almost no hangover symptoms. They considered advertising it, but decided that they would be criticized for promoting more drinking. I know it helps me, since I had been having troubles even after only two beers. So...that link is a Google search on "Famotidine + hangover" Do remember: This will NOT keep you from getting drunk! |

Subject: RE: BS: Tried & Tested Hangover Cures From: Mooh Date: 01 Oct 06 - 01:20 PM A cup of water from a particular stream which emerges from the ground and eventually flows into Georgian Bay (you may try a substitute, but good luck), a cup of V8 juice, two fresh raw eggs, a teaspoon of shelled peanuts, and a fillet or two of perch cooked over an open fire (pork might work). Hold your head while it's all mixed up in the blender. Get it in you. Follow with a long soak in the lake. Prayer and repentance too. Peace, Mooh. |

Subject: RE: BS: Tried & Tested Hangover Cures From: lady penelope Date: 01 Oct 06 - 03:00 PM I know this sounds bizzare but..... Brush your teeth before you fall asleep (ok this doesn't work if you're absolutely stocious.....). It doesn't kill the entire hangover, but it really does tone it down to managable proportions. After that, a couple of aspirins. |

Subject: RE: BS: Tried & Tested Hangover Cures From: GUEST,Bee Date: 01 Oct 06 - 04:51 PM At least two big glasses of water before bed - so you have to get up for two minutes at 4 am, tough. Big breakfast: steak and eggs is good or eggs benedict. If it's still Saturday, bloody mary or orange juice and champagne, if it's already Sunday, V-8 with a celery stick and dash of bitters. I really recommend the bitters. If all else fails, find someone to sing you a few old Temperance ditties and swear off the stuff. ;-D |

Subject: RE: BS: Tried & Tested Hangover Cures From: GUEST Date: 01 Oct 06 - 04:54 PM But have them sing very softly, right? |

Subject: RE: BS: Tried & Tested Hangover Cures From: John O'L Date: 01 Oct 06 - 08:28 PM Nothing but time will cure a hangover but a big fry-up will certainly make it easier to live through, as will a Bloody Mary. Alanabit's idea is also sound, but I usually found there was a point after which you didn't remember about the water and didn't care about the hangover. |

Subject: RE: BS: Tried & Tested Hangover Cures From: GUEST,dax Date: 01 Oct 06 - 09:14 PM Prevention of course, but remember it isn't the drink that causes the problem but the stopping, so staying drunk is one method. Like "It ain't the fall that kills ya but the quick stop at the end." |

Subject: RE: BS: Tried & Tested Hangover Cures From: Jos Date: 02 Oct 06 - 04:45 AM It's the salt on the crisps that does the trick I think, so little salty savoury biscuits would do as a substitute, or sometimes a Bloody Mary, but leave out the vodka and add a little extra salt. And never mind the 'heart disease salt police' - this is an emergency. |

Subject: RE: BS: Tried & Tested Hangover Cures From: Paul Burke Date: 02 Oct 06 - 04:48 AM My father's cure was a 'Bombay oyster': a whole unbroken raw egg in a cup with Lea & Perrin's salt and lots of pepper. Down it in one. I don't get hangovers, there's nothing to hurt. |
