Subject: RE: Obit: Etta Baker, guitarist, age 93 From: Scoville Date: 25 Sep 06 - 10:31 AM I know. I thought she must already have passed but I never saw any references to it so I wasn't sure. Boy, is my mother going to be upset, though! She's been a fan ever since that Folk Music of the Southern Appalachians record came out in 1956. Etta was one of the reasons Mom bought a guitar in the first place. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Etta Baker, guitarist, age 93 From: Alice Date: 25 Sep 06 - 10:35 AM I found the Folk Music of the Southern Appalachians record and Etta Baker when I was in college. She amazed me and brought tears to my eyes to hear her music. I just heard on NPR of her passing on. Great talent. Alice |

Subject: RE: Obit: Etta Baker, guitarist, age 93 From: Scoville Date: 25 Sep 06 - 01:36 PM It is on CD, in at least two forms. You can get it on Amazon, and I think I got mine at Cheap CD's.com. It's probably available through anyone who sells folk or blues. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Etta Baker, guitarist, age 93 From: The Sandman Date: 25 Sep 06 - 02:28 PM GREAT. I remember along with paley and john hurt she was a featured artist in finger picking styles for guitar, back in the 1960,s.I reckon the later version of Railroad bill, at the slower tempo is even better, and i loved Dew Drop,THANKS,Dick .Miles |

Subject: RE: Obit: Etta Baker, guitarist, age 93 From: GUEST,Deacon Date: 29 Sep 06 - 11:26 AM Etta was a great guitarist, but more importantly she was a great friend. We had a number of opportunities to work together and she always treated me (and just about everyone else she knew) as family. This was inevitable, given her failing health in recent years, but it is still a tremendous loss. We can only be grateful for the time we had to spend with her and the legacy she leaves behind. |
