Subject: Lyr req: I've only come down for the day From: melodeonboy Date: 24 Sep 06 - 06:30 PM I heard this song (which may well be of music hall origin) for the first time at Sidmouth this year. I think it was at one of the evening sessions at the York & Faulkner Hotel (is that the correct name?) which is half-way along the promenade, although some of my memories of Sidmouth are a little fuzzy! Anyway, I thought it was a cracking song and I'd like to add it to my repertoire, so any help with the lyrics would be appreciated. |

Subject: RE: Lyr req: I've only come down for the day From: Mick Pearce (MCP) Date: 24 Sep 06 - 07:39 PM Well I just put i've only come down for the day in the Filter Box, set the Age drop-down to All and the thread popped right up. (When I checked before I didn't use the full title - quite often I just pick a likely word and then use find on the list to narrow it down). Mick |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: I've Only Come Down for the Day From: GUEST,Lin Date: 28 Sep 14 - 03:40 PM I have only just seen this. I remember nearly every word from this speech from liza of lambeth staged at the Shaftesbury theatre london. My dad worked in the theatres so I saw lots of the rehearsals. Hope this helps sorry it's so late. I come down from Wigan to see London Town, I only come down for the day. I'd once been to morecombe and so had me dad, It's the usual trip for a Lancashire lad. Well on lavender hill I fell in with our lil, 'I'm not stopping' I said, she said 'right' I woke up on Sunday and I'd been married that Saturday night. From that day forth I've been no father north than tott-en-ham and Eee that were last May, 23 bloody year I've been stopping down here and I only come down for the day. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: I've Only Come Down for the Day From: GUEST,Tunesmith Date: 29 Sep 14 - 07:53 AM Cosmotheka used to introduce the song - which is not very p.c - by saying, "There are parts of this song that might offend people, but we don't apologise for any of our material. We are sorry about that..." |
