Subject: banjo necks From: dick greenhaus Date: 15 Sep 06 - 11:52 AM Back about thirty or forty years ago, aspiring 5-string banjo players were removing necks from tenor banjos and replacing them with 5-string necks. With the relatively recent rebirth of the tenor banjo, I'm told that there are folk removing necks from 5-stringers and replacing them with tenor necks. If anyone has done this latter, and has a 5-string neck lying about unused, I'd love to get it (or get more than one, if possible.) Please PM me. |

Stewart Universal Favorite 5-string neck (I replaced this with a Wyatt Fawley neck) and the Slingerland with a 5-string neck made for me by Jim Hyatt. The Maybelle is pretty basic, but the Stewart is nice--my Stewart pot is a U.F. #1 but the neck probably a U.F. 2 or 3. Both are, of course, dowel stick construction. Charles |

( as long as you don't count the complete 5-string banjo I made and the Mandola-bodied 5-string "Bandola" I constructed... Quack! GtD. By the way the tenor neck was too bowed to be worth saving. If you are adept at woodworking you can carve one yourself. Found Maple or Walnut to be some of the best woods for this. |
