Subject: Lyr Req: 'Bugger Bognor' From: jonmac Date: 07 Aug 06 - 05:04 PM Lyric request for a version of "Bugger Bognor" from an Australian singer as follows: While I was in the south of England a bloke sang a song at a session called Bugger Bognor, very funny, about King George 5th last words, to the tune of Clementine. My Google searches found a song by that title by Luke Haines, but it's the wrong one. By any chance do you know this song or can you tell me where to get the words? I certainly don't know it - but I've no doubt that one of you good people will be able to supply the answer |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: 'Bugger Bognor' From: Micca Date: 07 Aug 06 - 05:20 PM I think the person who "did" the song in the south of England may well have been Richard Atkins Whom I have heard sing this song on a few ocassions, he is a Member here, you could try sending him a PM, you can say I sent you ;o) |

Subject: Lyr Add: BUGGER BOGNOR (Rob Scrase) From: Richard Atkins Date: 15 Aug 06 - 04:26 PM Micca: thanks for pointing this question in my direction! Jonmac: Here are the Lyrics: BUGGER BOGNOR By Rob Scrase To the Tune of Clementine Poor King George he was a sick man, resting on his royal bed And the Doctors couldn't cure him, and feared he would soon be dead Suddenly a brilliant notion flashed into the Doctor's mind What he needs is bracing sea air of that chilly Bognor kind CHORUS: Bugger Bognor, bugger Bognor, bugger Bognor says the King You'll never get me back to Butlins, no I'll never do that thing The diagnosis it was fatal, Bognor was the final straw Would he last until the morning? Would he see the sun no more? The Royal Physician knowing protocol, saw quite clear where duty lay Dispatched the King a trifle early to catch the Times the following day The Royal Train it was prepared, for that trip down to the coast But before he could commence it, poor King George gave up the ghost So if you wondered why proud Bognor added Regis to it's name 'Tis because the King of England died at mention of the same Nb. The word Butlins in the Chorus refers to a certain chain of family holiday camps within the UK. |

I saw him at Upton this year but he has a problem driving so waits for his son to drive him and they are not quite as keen but still folkies. I haven't heard Rob sing for a long time. Pat - the editor of Folkwrite - died in 2001 (ish). |
