A small group of N.England session regulars will be holidaying together in NW Norfolk next week. We're taking our instruments (a lot of the stuff we do is ITM). Does anyone know of any good sessions in the area where we'd be welcome, and where we might inflict ourselves on the locals for a while, time and circmstances permitting?

Hi to GUEST europetour06

A good place to start is the website I run for Norfolk. I call it Norfok Folk Directory because it covers everything with a folk connection.

www.norfolkfolk.co.uk

Chris Holderness as a local fiddler and runs a "norfolk tunes" session at the Hunworth Bell(called the hunnybell)near Holt on the First and third Mondays 8.30pm in the bar. I am sure he would be delighted to see you and so would I for that matter.

Chris also runs one at Hindolveston Community Centre last Friday of the month. These are worthwhile sessions I take my fiddle there from time to time for the exercise.

I run a singaround at the Wolf Folk Club which meets alternate Thursdays 8.30pm at Wolferton Social Club on the Sandringham Estate. This is quite a big club and we normally have about 30 performers and about 60 listeners. We range from absolute beginners (encouraged) to absolute pros (enjoyed)The Wolf Club has a page on the above website. if your'e stuck for somewhere to go come and visit on 29th July which is our next meet. I can guarantee you an apprecative and well mannered audience of locals. The beer s cheaper as well.

When are you coming down and where will you be staying.

I can put a notice on the website for you to see if we can drum up some contacts.

Cheers!

Thanks for that Roger - just to clarify, vis a vis the "norfolk tunes" at Holt and Hindolveston, and the singaround - we mostly play instrumental music of the Irish kind, and we sing very little. Are you sure that this would be acceptable at these sessions? we really wouldn't want to get in the way or get up anyone's nose.

Cheers.

Nice site, Old Roger. A couple of queries with your Norwich listing though:

I think the Nelson, Tuesday might now be The Shed, Wednesday. The session I go to moved but I don't know if the Nelson took on anything new for that night.

I had heard the White Lion on Oak Street had closed. I have been been to a session (not a folk club) there on a Sunday night. That particular event moved to the Nelson on a Sunday night.
