Subject: Review: Geoff Higginbottom at Swinton From: Dave the Gnome Date: 17 Jul 06 - 07:11 PM We always forget how good out stalwarts are. Geoff was brilliant tonight. I will even forgive him not doing the Flowers of Manchester. No Rum and no Pies nearly made up for it:-) Rob Carrol (sp?) ably assisted him on various stringed instruments and could well make a booking in his own right! Good lad Geoff (and Rob), keep doing the folk clubs and keep us all happy:-) Cheers DtG |

Subject: RE: Review: Geoff Higginbottom at Swinton From: Cllr Date: 17 Jul 06 - 09:02 PM I have been booking geoff for years, at clubs, galas, when ever i get the opportunity. He is a very skillfull artist not the least of which is the exuberance he puts forward at every performance. and i have i have to admit he was one of the people that inspired me to start singing. Subject: RE: Review: Geoff Higginbottom at Swinton From: MoorleyMan Date: 18 Jul 06 - 04:39 AM Me too Cllr - Geoff's been an inspiration to me too. He really is one of the pillars of the scene, "strong in all departments" musically, skilled at putting together an entertaining set or evening, a great taste in songs, and a really nice guy too. I've never known him do an indifferent gig, let alone a bad 'un. Keep on in there Geoff! |
Subject: RE: Review: Geoff Higginbottom at Swinton From: Dave the Gnome Date: 18 Jul 06 - 05:59 AM When I first ran Geoffs name through a word processor - probably at one of our early festivals - he came up as Goof Higginbottom. He has also been billed as Gerrof Higginbottom apparantly:-) Ever seen him in full motley as Geoff the jolly jester. Not a pretty sight..;-) Cheers DtG |
Subject: RE: Review: Geoff Higginbottom at Swinton From: GUEST Date: 18 Jul 06 - 06:20 AM Aye I suppose "stalwart" is a good term. I don't know about other clubs but we used to for our guest nights maybe have a couple of "gambles", a couple of "bigger names" if we could afford them and sort of build those bookings around using people not too expensive and guaranteed to give a good night for all. Geoff Higginbottom was one of that third category for us, an essential category for the running of the club IMO. |

Subject: RE: Review: Geoff Higginbottom at Swinton From: Dave Wynn Date: 18 Jul 06 - 12:06 PM I echo the thoughts of Chairman Gnome. Geoff is always good so no surprises when he is, but Rob Carrol is an inspiring strings player, it appears that if it involves strings under tension he plays it. His accuracy and speed on Rocky Road to Dublin (played at Higginbottom tempo, very fast indeed) was stunning. I have seen Gentlemen Soldier (Robs Band)a couple of times many years ago and must have been too young to appreciate how good he was then ;-). Spot the Dog |
Subject: RE: Review: Geoff Higginbottom at Swinton From: GUEST,Andy Date: 18 Jul 06 - 12:38 PM I've booked Geoff at Kiveton Park F.C many times over the last twenty years or so and never been disappointed. He's a grand bloke, very witty and an all-round good performer. He's one of that group of down to earth, honest, no-frills folksingers who always provide great value for money. He's not flashy, has no airs and graces and is guaranteed to give the club/audience what they want. If you've never seen or heard him, get to his next gig if it's in your area and organisers who've never booked him,put him on your list! Regards Andy |
