Anything happening in Oxford during August? I think the Port Mahon usually closes for the Summer. Oh for the days of the Fir Tree and Roots.Net!

Cheers

Wayne

Towersey Folk Festival not too far away over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Try contacting one of the local clubs or morris teams for more localised details.

Every Sunday night there is a song-and-tune session at the Half Moon in St Clements, usually presided by Ian Woods, Ian Giles and Graham Mecalfe.

Funny we're over there for the week before the White Horse Festival at Barford St. Michael (north of Oxford), does anyone know of any other song sessions, I have vague memoires of one out in one of the villages in a pub with a 'funny' name like the Albatross, pelican or Oyster? The pub not the village!

BTW I'm often at Oxford FC and the session at the Victoria Arms. I occasionally get to the Killingworth Castle (Friday), the Half Moon (Sunday), The Abingdon Arms (Friday) and Highworth FC. Watch out for a middle-aged geezer with receeding hairline with a Nick Benjamin guitar or Fylde bouzouki, often in the company of a guy playing fiddle/hammered dulcimer - so say hello! There was a session at the Prince of Wales, Iffley Village, Oxford on the fourth Tuesday but this is about to get relocated. I'll post when I get news.

We went along to the session in the Half Moon on the Sunday evening - dragged the boss along with me, well he has to drive the campervan at present. Great night definately worth the effort, only sorry that we had to leave early - well apparently it goes on until the early hours - really good to see so many 'young' people there to join in or just listen.
Anyhow next time we're down near Oxford we'll be visiting the Half Moon again - thanks everyone.

Looks like the session in the Prince of Wales, Iffley Village, Oxford might be restarting. The session got abandoned after it was felt the manager was not being helpful, however, he has gone and the landlord is keen to get things up and running again.

Fourth Tuesday from about 8.30 - look
here for a map

The Prince of Wales session in Iffley is still going and was a real cracker last time.

Another session to check out is the new one on the 3rd Sunday of the month at the George & Dragon, Main Road, Long Hanborough, Oxon, OX29 8JX
