I give it 4 stars! The only thing I didn't care for was the blatant "Christ-ification" of the Man of Steel -- "the Father's Voice" directing him ie ..."they are a strange people but they have great potential -- and so I have sent them YOU, my Son ..."; his self-sacrificing saving of the world, after which he falls back to Earth 'dead' and in crucifixion pose, no less. Oh BROTHER, I say! Give it a break, willya! I did like the treatment of women, and of men as characters though. For example, no manly duking it out with Lois' new mate. This is the 21st Century! THe 'rivals' are portrayed as understanding, emotionally controlled, mutually supportive, more concerned with Lois-and-child's well-being than their own wants. What a giant leap forward for mankind! And no 'saving' poor helpless little Lois either (well, he does of course - but she saves him at the end). Even the "villian woman" shows courage and integrity, doing her fair share of 'saving the world'. I'll stop now though, before I let the whole story slip out! What awaits is a brand new and exciting 'twist' to the Superman saga that's fuel for a whole new series of movies I bet -- but you'll have to see it for yourself. :-) |

I only had one gripe, and it might be the fault of the theater where I saw it, but the first part seemed to take place at night and I could barely make out what was happening. Otherwise, I'd give it three stars. Ebert was off his rocker when he reviewed this one. Steve |

I haven't seen the new Superman movie, but I picked up a used copy of Batman Begins and watched it a couple of nights ago. What a surprise. Nary a primary color in the movie. Very dark, like th re-invention of Batman a few years ago as the Dark Knight. I really respect Ebert as a film critic, but you can throw his comments out the window when he reviews anything related to his childhood or comic book heroes. He becomes a little Gee Whiz kid again (which ain't all bad) and filters everything through his own childhood. Of course, I always get it right.. :-) Jerry |

A good tribute to Chris Reeve in this Superman adopting and adapting his mannerisms. And Spacey's Lex seeming to emulate Hackman's Lex for a needed comic break (with some mannerism's from TVs Smallville's Lex--Jon Rosenbaum---it seemed right on to be and mellowed the darkness generally. John Steinbeck's overbearing Christian religiosity in "East Of Eden" was pure lameness I have always thought. But here it was a nice touch laid on the story I thought. At least this film didn't have blatant Cain and Abel and all references by naming characters Caleb, and Amos, etc. How about Cuperman and ALex ?? Art ;-) |

Supes was never my favorite, I've always been more of a Marvel fan, but this was a well made movie. Comic books are our modern folklore. The biblical touches were present since the character was created. It is not a piece of religious dogma, but a great adaptation of an old story into a modern treatment. The last several years have been great! One of my favorite film adaptations was Hellboy. I'm looking forward to the next Fantastic Four (with the Silver Surfer!) as well as Spidey 3!! Down the line, there is a good chance that Captain Marvel (Shazam) and The Spirit will be made into films. I hope they don't screw it up! Ron |

I've heard an ugly rumor that Jack Black was interested in making the Green Lantern into a movie. Just what we need, another camp superhero. I like Jack Black, but I hope he doesn't do this! |
