Subject: HAPPY BIRTHDAY RADIO BRITFOLK! From: Lizzie Cornish Date: 29 Jun 06 - 10:57 AM Radio Britfolk is having it's 1st Birthday any minute now! So, I just wanted to say 'Happy Birthday' and many thanks to all of those involved for bringing us all so many wonderful and informative programmes! http://www.myspace.com/radiobritfolk http://www.radiobritfolkhome.co.uk/HomePage.aspx Here's the e mail many of us have received from Kate Bramley, which gives details of new programmes that are coming up. I thought I'd put this on here in case anyone reads it, who hasn't heard of Radio Britfolk yet, so they can see what just they're missing! ;0) From Kate: "Phil Snell has been working really hard on the new website for launch next week, 3rd July, which should make access easier for all members and users as well as giving us a new streamlined look! We're very excited about that and the programmes coming up this month to mark our 1st birthday celebrations, and must mention that its made possible, in part, by our recent grant from the lottery. To give you a taster of what is coming up: July 3rd sees the premiere of Pete Coe's new series 'An Ear to the Ground' that looks at some of the pioneering work done by folk labels in the UK. In his first show he talks with John Howson of Veteran Records and plays some classic tracks. Also the first concert from the Radio Britfolk Live event recorded last year features a half hour live set from the amazing Steve Tilston. Steve is a songwriter and guitarist at the top of his game, and gives a magical performance in this programme. By popular request there will also be a Morris Special in Tim Moon's regular 'Focus' programme, a look at the female singer-songwriter scene in Janis Haves monthly show 'Its a girl thing'. We're also very pleased to be presenting the first in a two part series on the legendary Show of Hands, playing tracks from their brand new album as well as other solo projects from Steve Knightley and Phil Beer. We've just heard today that the second programme, tabled for later this month will feature rare tracks from Steve Knightley's own archives. And thats just the first week of programmes! July 10th sees a great programme from Chris Sweeney about John Tams, as well as Ali O'Briens fortnightly round-up of all things folk, and special Smallpipes workshops with Vicki Swan that run for the rest of the month. From 10th July we'll be featuring a programme a week from the archives, and we start with Ben Sands' excellent 'Ulster Folk' followed by 'A sense of time and place' that looks at the diverse range of music across Wales, Ireland, Scotland and England. Please support us as much as you can! Now is a great time to upload your billboard tracks and listings.... Hope you enjoy the programmes! Kate Bramley - Radio Britfolk Co-ordinator" And on their Myspace page, they're playing Jez Lowe, George Papavgeris, Miranda Sykes and Tom Bliss.... WHAT a way to celebrate your birthday!! Oh....and if anyone knows the whereabouts of Shanty Jack....I think he should have a Birthday Kiss...and Johnny Collins too!....And I know JUST the person to do that! ;0) Right I'm away to my shed which is filled with Vikings and Jez Lowe. Wheeeeee! ;0) "...Isn't that the way of the world today....That's what the Vikings say..." HAPPY BIRTHDAY GUYS!! Lizzie :0) |
