Subject: RE: Song Circle South Portland, ME From: SINSULL Date: 24 Jun 06 - 08:29 PM We could use a banjo player, Terry. |
Subject: RE: Song Circle South Portland, ME From: Bat Goddess Date: 25 Jun 06 - 02:15 PM We'll be there, Sins. Need a bed. The way things have been going, you'll need a dehumidifier even more than an air conditioner. I'm mildewing! Yesterday's humidity was about as high as it could be without actually raining. Fog, too, especially on the ocean side of New Castle, but at least it didn't rain so we could sing onboard the Bluenose II. Linn |
Subject: RE: Song Circle South Portland, ME From: Charley Noble Date: 25 Jun 06 - 06:48 PM Mary- Put Judy and I down for Jed Marum's house concert on Friday, August 11th. He sounds interesting, and he's working on a ballad about the Confederate commerce raider Shanandoah that would be nice to hear a first draft of. I probably should mention that Roll & Go will be doing a concert at the First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church in Portland on Saturday, July 29th. Happy there appear to be no major conflicts. Cheerily, Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Song Circle South Portland, ME From: Dan Schatz Date: 26 Jun 06 - 01:52 PM Pity - a week later and we might have been there! Ah well.... Dan Schatz |
Subject: RE: Song Circle South Portland, ME From: Barry Finn Date: 26 Jun 06 - 02:01 PM Well Dan, you won't be to far from the Friday nite Press Room session, it'd be great to have you there with family in tow. Barry |
Subject: RE: Song Circle South Portland, ME From: Charley Noble Date: 26 Jun 06 - 06:36 PM Dan- And the regular "shanty sing" at the Press Room in Portsmouth takes place Saturday, August 19, from 3:30 to 7:30 pm. That's only about 60 minutes from your GPS bearing on Sebago Lake. Cheerily, Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Song Circle South Portland, ME From: jacqui.c Date: 26 Jun 06 - 06:55 PM WE'll be there, if Kendall has recovered from Old Songs! |
Subject: RE: Song Circle South Portland, ME From: SINSULL Date: 26 Jun 06 - 10:27 PM If his attitude doesn't improve, I will deal with him. No throwing ladies' purses around, Captain! And stop kicking that dog! |
Subject: RE: Song Circle South Portland, ME From: Dan Schatz Date: 26 Jun 06 - 11:03 PM Thanks folks. We'll see - we're only there for a week (July 8-14) and have folks with us for part of that time. But maybe we'll bump into some folks! Dan Schatz |
Subject: RE: Song Circle South Portland, ME From: Bat Goddess Date: 27 Jun 06 - 07:32 AM July Sea Music Singaround at The Press Room in Portsmouth is July 15th (3:30-7:30) -- third Saturday of the month (and July 1st is a Saturday). Our regular weekly mixed sessions are every Friday from 4:30 to 9:00 -- more instrumentation, less structure, more people, more chaos, but lots more variety. (English, Scots, Irish, sea music, a capella and accompanied, tunes as well as singing, etcet, etcet. Linn |
Subject: RE: Song Circle South Portland, ME From: SINSULL Date: 29 Jun 06 - 07:34 PM So, it is Linn and Tom, Kendall and Jacqui, Deborah and Tom plus some guests. Jeri? Tami? Peter and Joanne? Charley and Judy? Bobbi? Anyone else? |
Subject: RE: Song Circle South Portland, ME From: Charley Noble Date: 29 Jun 06 - 08:54 PM Sinsull- We're going to go boating when a niece and her family who have driven up from NYC. The weather looks great and we should take them out on the water, after they help us launch the boat! Have a fine sing. Cheerily, Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Song Circle South Portland, ME From: Jeri Date: 29 Jun 06 - 09:12 PM I'm gonna stay home for this one. I'm not sure I've recovered from Old Songs yet, plus I have stuff I've put off because of the rain. July 22 is a big 'probably' (depends whether I'm home then), and it would take a restraining order to keep me away in August. Wll, maybe a restraining order and a S.W.A.T. team. |
Subject: RE: Song Circle South Portland, ME From: adventure Date: 29 Jun 06 - 09:21 PM Sins, Wow...a Catholic flashback. Jo and I will not be able to make the July 1 song circle. I have my Newfie family reunion during the day and Jo has her 10th high school class reunion in the evening. Not too bad for being married almost 22 years. Yes she is a saint. Miss seeing you and the crew. What's on for August??? We're still recovering from Mystic and the Portsmouth Brewery events. Just think a whole restaurant full of my relatives....wow!!! This restaurant will never be the same. Wall to wall Newfie's...eh. Hope to see you soon. Doryman and his mate |
Subject: RE: Song Circle South Portland, ME From: SINSULL Date: 30 Jun 06 - 09:05 AM Summer is always a crap shoot. Enjoy your holiday weekend all. Guess no one is bringing an air conditioner... SINS |
Subject: RE: Song Circle South Portland, ME From: Charley Noble Date: 30 Jun 06 - 09:36 AM Doryman and his mate- A whole restaurant chuck-a-block full of Newfies! It does boggle the mind. I don't suppose someone would consider raising a song or two? Where is this reunion taking place? Some of us would like to listen, and join in the chorus! Charley Noble, also still recovering from the Brewery episode |
Subject: RE: Song Circle South Portland, ME From: jacqui.c Date: 30 Jun 06 - 10:10 AM I've just finished making a pan full of meatballs from a recipe in the book I won on the auction recently. They will be available for the delectation of all comers tomorrow night. I may never BUY meatballs again! |
Subject: RE: Song Circle South Portland, ME From: SINSULL Date: 30 Jun 06 - 11:28 AM Buy meatballs? Those sweet sauced abominations they sell at Hannaford's? ICK! Now get some crusty Italian bread and Parmigiano cheese. A little garlic butter and you have a dream of a sandwich! Then head for the tredmill. |
Subject: RE: Song Circle South Portland, ME From: Jeri Date: 30 Jun 06 - 05:14 PM August looks like it's shaping up to be Lobsterpalooza '06. Jed on Friday night, marine arachnids on Saturday, Seamus Kennedy on Sunday. Think of the weekend as a weird variation on an Irish flag - two hunks of green with a little orangey critter in between. |
Subject: RE: Song Circle South Portland, ME From: SINSULL Date: 30 Jun 06 - 08:04 PM Note to all: That threesome will only happen if I get a lot of moral support and people willing to get their hands dirty. In fact, I will probably have to postpone the Lobster Boil for another time. Seamus announced his concert in his monthly mailing and the responses are coming in - we may need to confirm reservations and limit the event to about 50. If it rains it will be my worst nightmare. heh heh More info as the day gets closer. SINS |
Subject: RE: Song Circle South Portland, ME From: GUEST,Uncle Jaque Date: 01 Jul 06 - 12:56 AM "... the regular "shanty sing" at the Press Room in Portsmouth takes place Saturday, August 19, from 3:30 to 7:30 pm.".. Oy; Me boithday, awready! Gotta come to one of those blasted things some time, if I can chew off me leash and FIND the bloomin' place! We're going up to our camp on Berry Pond Sat. - first time all summer due to all the rain. A lot of brush and felled trees to be cleared up there. Looking to relocate from Yarmouth to the Winthrop area (about 60% of the property taxes here) so this Summer is going to be pretty hectic. Will be putting these digs on the market pretty soon. But I certainly do miss all that good jammin! |
Subject: RE: Song Circle South Portland, ME From: Jeri Date: 01 Jul 06 - 11:44 AM SINS, I'll work for room and board. I'm good at schlepping -- lifting and carrying. I understand the theoretical principles of indoor cleaning. I'll be your bitch. If you want to have the lobster boil elsewhen, I'm down with that, too. Maybe those of us with nothing else to do on Saturday can organize a bus trip or poker game at kendall's house or something. I suppose I could go home in between, too. (Seriously, I'm fine with whatever you wanna do.) |
Subject: RE: Song Circle South Portland, ME From: SINSULL Date: 01 Jul 06 - 12:09 PM I am thinking out loud, Jeri. Just trying to get a handle on the logistics of cleaning up after the Lobster Boil so that guests (not the usual friends) won't be appalled at the kitchen and bathroom. Thanks for the offer. I will take you up on it. And plan on staying two nights. Whatever happens that only makes sense and we can make music on Saturday too. SINS |
Subject: RE: Song Circle South Portland, ME From: Barry Finn Date: 01 Jul 06 - 01:37 PM Jeri's gonna be SINSULL's bitch & that's only 2/3 of a threesome? I gotta keep an eye on this, it way be the best show of the year. Barry |
Subject: RE: Song Circle South Portland, ME From: Charley Noble Date: 01 Jul 06 - 05:01 PM Sinsull- Postponing the Lobster Boil may help preserve your sanity, if that is still a serious consideration. Cheerily, Charley Noble |

Subject: RE: Song Circle South Portland, ME From: Charley Noble Date: 02 Jul 06 - 08:46 AM It was midnight on the ocean, Not a streetcar was in sight; Sinsull planned a Lobster Boil, But couldn't get a bite! Hope everyone had fun! Cheerily, Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Song Circle South Portland, ME From: jacqui.c Date: 02 Jul 06 - 09:00 AM We talked about the August festivities last night and Deb and Tom have agreed to host the Jed Marum house concert on the Friday evening. Further details will follow. We had a great time last night, although Kendall went home early as he was rather tired and his voice amplifier battery died so he couldn't even talk (it was a bit of a noisy evening overall!) Unfortunately Tami had found a little book of 500 hit songs, published in the early 60's, and presented it to Mary who spent the whole evening singing some of the songs. When they had been hits no-one could say, and why they were hits was even more of a mystery! |
Subject: RE: Song Circle South Portland, ME From: Bat Goddess Date: 02 Jul 06 - 08:21 PM Kendall may not know it, but he could talk intravenously... ;-) It was a lightly populated but very delightful evening. Definitely not all trad. We got a lot of songs out of our system -- another ;-) -- '60s stuff, etc. (Not just "dead date" songs, either) Lots of parodies. (Maybe that's why Kendall went home early.) And I was the recipient of a wonderfully shaggy flamingo marionette which I've named Clive. Linn |
Subject: RE: Song Circle South Portland, ME From: GUEST Date: 03 Jul 06 - 03:33 AM BG, I Hope you keep this Clive AWAY from MY FLAMINGO!!!!and remind him to "Keep off the Grass" or his ass is grass, |
Subject: RE: Song Circle South Portland, ME From: Micca Date: 03 Jul 06 - 08:14 AM the above is Me from work |
Subject: RE: Song Circle South Portland, ME From: SINSULL Date: 03 Jul 06 - 06:18 PM No one believed me that "The Farmer In The Dell" was on the Hit Parade. I am enjoying that book. It has the same effect as the whale tambourine. Cringes of fear, moans, and then they join in the chorus. But I did find "My Evenin' Star" and "Mighty Lak A Rose". Wonderful stuff. Great food. Vegetable Curry, meatballs, Chicken with Peanut Sauce (lethally hot as Kendall found out), assorted nibbles and ice cream. Too damn hot still but at least it didn't rain. |
Subject: RE: Song Circle South Portland, ME From: stallion Date: 04 Jul 06 - 07:23 AM Hey Charley, you did a brewery gig! where were we! Sounds like Floka Black Sheep heaven! |
Subject: RE: Song Circle South Portland, ME From: Bat Goddess Date: 04 Jul 06 - 10:08 AM I even did a chorus of "The Night They Drove Dick Nixon Down" -- thanks, Art! Linn |
Subject: RE: Song Circle South Portland, ME From: kendall Date: 04 Jul 06 - 11:13 AM Batty, I left because I was not feeling well. (New medication) I've always had a hard time in a group of people who were all talking at once and no one was actually listening. It's kinda like bluegrass music, it's fun for the players but the listener doesn't get nearly as much out of it. I mentioned this problem to Gordon Bok a few years ago, and he has the same problem. Multi sources of sound are impossible to process, and they literally "get on my nerves" forcing me to retreat. Now, having said that, when I feel ok, and have had a drink or three, I'm able to tolerate all the noise. I know what you are thinking, it's my problem, and you are right. I just have to deal with it my way. |
Subject: RE: Song Circle South Portland, ME From: Barry Finn Date: 04 Jul 06 - 02:58 PM Hi Kendall, I have a good cure, it works great. A good dose of ADHD will fix it, of course you'll only be trading one thing for another. You sing & I'll listen. Glad your voice is on the mend. See ya soon? Barry |
Subject: RE: Song Circle South Portland, ME From: SINSULL Date: 04 Jul 06 - 03:44 PM Poor Kendall. That book and my insistence on perusing it out loud plus the general and usual noise - well. I knew why you left. I too sometimes slip outside ostensibly to get the cats in but really to decompress. I find it worse the following morning when people insist on talking at me before I have had my second cup of coffee and restored my ability to comprehend. People who wake up coherent make me ill. SIN, grumpy in the AM and proud of it. |
Subject: RE: Song Circle South Portland, ME From: Naemanson Date: 04 Jul 06 - 07:54 PM Actually Kendall I have the same problem. And now I am teaching in an elementary school! Ouch! |
