Subject: BS: Ever Wanted To See The North Pole? From: Rapparee Date: 20 Jun 06 - 09:04 AM Now there are webcams. |
Subject: RE: BS: Ever Wanted To See The North Pole? From: Amos Date: 20 Jun 06 - 09:08 AM Thanks. Most interesting. A |
Subject: RE: BS: Ever Wanted To See The North Pole? From: GUEST Date: 20 Jun 06 - 09:11 AM Camera #1 has a Polar bear - but there is currently a snowstorm in progress. |
Subject: RE: BS: Ever Wanted To See The North Pole? From: SINSULL Date: 20 Jun 06 - 09:12 AM Now hgow do I know that that isn't just some stage set or a cut from North To Alaska? Sorry, after the WMD fiasco, I am skeptical of everything. |
Subject: RE: BS: Ever Wanted To See The North Pole? From: Tannywheeler Date: 20 Jun 06 - 09:16 AM I read a magazine article once that postulated the shift, during this century & next of the poles. If we want to see the NP, we should just wait--it'll be migrating past us soon. It's entertaining to look at snow from here in Central Texas in June. Makes me feel cooler.....Thanks. Tw |
Subject: RE: BS: Ever Wanted To See The North Pole? From: Sorcha Date: 20 Jun 06 - 09:23 AM Not really, no. (grin) |
Subject: RE: BS: Ever Wanted To See The North Pole? From: Jerry Rasmussen Date: 20 Jun 06 - 09:42 AM I've been within a few hundred miles of the North pole. When I was in college I took a summer job as navigator on an ice station in the Arctic Ocean as part of several research projects that were being conducted jointly by Universities, and the Underwater Sound Laboratory in Groton, Connecticut. It was an amazing experience. The shots on the web cams look very familiar. They were definitely not filmen in Wehawken. Jerry |
Subject: RE: BS: Ever Wanted To See The North Pole? From: catspaw49 Date: 20 Jun 06 - 09:45 AM I'm with Sins here. That could be completely bogus! How dare they try for the coveted prize of "Web's Most Boring and Ridiculous Webcam" with such a trifling and pissant effort? No. The position still belongs to those crazy folks at Crazy Horse who bring you live pictures of the minute by minute progress of a Rushmore style memorial now over 60 years in the making! I mean I get a boner from the fever pitch of excitement. Every now and then someone shows up in the parking lot and museum and its almost too much to take!!!! CHECK IT OUT WWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO..Doggies!!!! Ain't that just Injun's nutsack? Spaw |
Subject: RE: BS: Ever Wanted To See The North Pole? From: GUEST,heric Date: 20 Jun 06 - 01:39 PM I pulled up into the driveway for that Crazy Horse monument about twenty five years ago. Guard at a gate wearing a bogus uniform somewhat like a park ranger's, but slightly comical. I looked forward and around me, and smelled something rotten going on. Did a U-ee (sp?) Glad I didn't end up on a camera. I think I'll go watch it for a while. Sounds like a rush. |
Subject: RE: BS: Ever Wanted To See The North Pole? From: Kaleea Date: 20 Jun 06 - 02:21 PM the textbook north pole? See it? Yes--on film. go there, no. Don't want to have to buy all that gear, walk that far, endure the weather, etc. However, I have been to the North Pole where Santa lives. It's really in Colorado. I even sat on Santa's lap & he gave me a lollipop. I saw the toy factory & even the reindeer. Except that Rudolph just happened to be out in the fields that day & not with the others. Of course, that was about 45 years ago. No one could have convinced me that there was another north pole. Actually, I'm still not sure there is one. Santa is never in the photos or films or on that cam link, so how can it be the real north pole? |
Subject: RE: BS: Ever Wanted To See The North Pole? From: Clinton Hammond Date: 20 Jun 06 - 02:38 PM This is the real North Pole ,-) |
Subject: RE: BS: Ever Wanted To See The North Pole? From: open mike Date: 20 Jun 06 - 02:39 PM what do the northern light look like from there? where do yo look to see them? up? where is north from there? down? http://spaceweather.com/aurora/gallery.html HAPPY SOLSTICE: On June 21st, Earth's north pole will be tipped to the max (23.5o) toward the Sun. Astronomers call this "a solstice." It marks the beginning of summer in the northern hemisphere, and winter in the southern hemisphere. The seasons are changing: Happy Solstice! |
Subject: RE: BS: Ever Wanted To See The North Pole? From: GUEST, Topsie Date: 20 Jun 06 - 03:07 PM I thought the north pole was in the Hundred Acre Wood. |
Subject: RE: BS: Ever Wanted To See The North Pole? From: Liz the Squeak Date: 21 Jun 06 - 04:48 AM Checked out that Crazy Horse Webcam.. Either it's darkest night over there or someone pulled the plug. The North Pole one was the same but white, like someone had put a sheet of paper (with grease stain in one corner) in front of the lens. I'm beginning to think this webcam lark is a hoax.. I never see anything moving on them.. LTS |
Subject: RE: BS: Ever Wanted To See The North Pole? From: Paul Burke Date: 21 Jun 06 - 04:59 AM Here's something for people who'd rather see Failsworth Pole. |
Subject: RE: BS: Ever Wanted To See The North Pole? From: GUEST,skipy Date: 21 Jun 06 - 09:27 AM I've seen the north pole many, many times and the south pole as well, I can see them both as I type, I don't know which is which, but if I hang this magnet on a piece of string I could find out. Skipy ( in a flux ). |
Subject: RE: BS: Ever Wanted To See The North Pole? From: Mooh Date: 21 Jun 06 - 09:32 AM With enough global warming, we'll only see the water part of the poles when we drown in it, but then it won't be polar any more. Been far enough north to see snow in August, but haven't been past the tree line. Someday... Peace, Mooh. |
Subject: RE: BS: Ever Wanted To See The North Pole? From: catspaw49 Date: 21 Jun 06 - 10:25 AM HEY LIZ.........You posted at 4:48 AM EDT which is the middle of the night all across the US pretty much. And then there is the fact that the Crazy Horse memorial is in South Dakota, a state where citizens are reminded to turn off the light when they leave. SD is truly West Bumfuck Nowhere but it has its fans as well. As far as the black screen goes, that's probably just about as entertaining as the webcam view.............. Spaw |
Subject: RE: BS: Ever Wanted To See The North Pole? From: Amos Date: 21 Jun 06 - 10:47 AM As you can see here, it is a very moody location. A |
Subject: RE: BS: Ever Wanted To See The North Pole? From: Rapparee Date: 21 Jun 06 - 11:34 AM Is that little house with what appears to be a TV antenna Santa's workshop, do you think? It seems kinda small. |
Subject: RE: BS: Ever Wanted To See The North Pole? From: Little Hawk Date: 21 Jun 06 - 11:57 AM I have a look at the Crazy Horse webcam whenever I need a major rush and I think my heart is strong enough to take it. Wow, eh? After that, I find the North Pole a little low key in comparison, but it's okay if you like the color white a lot. |
Subject: RE: BS: Ever Wanted To See The North Pole? From: Dave (the ancient mariner) Date: 21 Jun 06 - 12:13 PM Well it hasn't changed much since I was there.... |
Subject: RE: BS: Ever Wanted To See The North Pole? From: Ebbie Date: 21 Jun 06 - 02:26 PM Look at the size of that electrical outlet cover! 2006-04-27 19: 10:00 Or is the worker extra small? |
Subject: RE: BS: Ever Wanted To See The North Pole? From: Rapparee Date: 21 Jun 06 - 02:43 PM Hey! They got a camera at the South Pole, too! |
Subject: RE: BS: Ever Wanted To See The North Pole? From: Liz the Squeak Date: 21 Jun 06 - 03:35 PM Well whaddaya know.... it's dark and black there too! I think my point is proven.... LTS |
Subject: RE: BS: Ever Wanted To See The North Pole? From: Rapparee Date: 21 Jun 06 - 05:19 PM Your point is that it's dark at the poles?? |
Subject: RE: BS: Ever Wanted To See The North Pole? From: frogprince Date: 21 Jun 06 - 05:32 PM "what color was the bear..." |
Subject: RE: BS: Ever Wanted To See The North Pole? From: Liz the Squeak Date: 22 Jun 06 - 03:58 AM No, that webcams are a hoax and it's just some sad, pale geek in a cellar with a big sheet of black paper. LTS |
Subject: RE: BS: Ever Wanted To See The North Pole? From: GUEST, Topsie Date: 22 Jun 06 - 04:15 AM It's midsummer in the northern hemisphere, Liz, and midwinter in the southern hemisphere - 24-hour daylight at the north pole and 24-hour darkness at the south pole. |
Subject: RE: BS: Ever Wanted To See The North Pole? From: Liz the Squeak Date: 22 Jun 06 - 06:14 AM So do I assume that the camera isn't trained at the horizon then? The North is all white and the South is all black.... But Crazy Horse was there yesterday evening (afternoon there) and looked pretty weird. LTS |
Subject: RE: BS: Ever Wanted To See The North Pole? From: Rapparee Date: 22 Jun 06 - 08:45 AM Crazy Horse looked a little weird yesterday afternoon? Well, I'd certainly hope so! He's been dead for a hundred and twenty-nine years. |
Subject: RE: BS: Ever Wanted To See The North Pole? From: Little Hawk Date: 22 Jun 06 - 10:06 AM Not in the hearts of his admirers. |
Subject: RE: BS: Ever Wanted To See The North Pole? From: GUEST, Topsie Date: 22 Jun 06 - 11:06 AM For those in the UK with a radio to hand, BBC Radio 4 at 4.30 this afternoon, 'Material World', has a bit about the Earth's magnetic field and the possibility of it changing in the near future. I should think it will be available on 'Listen Again', for the rest of you. |
Subject: RE: BS: Ever Wanted To See The North Pole? From: GUEST, Topsie Date: 22 Jun 06 - 11:20 AM The more I think about it the more I think Liz's "bloke with black paper" theory is right. No stars, no moon, no Northern (or Southern?) lights. |
