Subject: BS: Yeti, Sasquatch, Yowee, Other Hominoids. From: Ebbie Date: 14 Jun 06 - 12:36 PM This is a diverse world but we all have certain things in common. Among them, evidently, is the legend of 'the others'. Does your area whisper or perhaps boast of timid, ghostly, bold inhabitants to which odd things are ascribed? Has your uncle, your mother, your son, reported an oddity of the sort? Have you yourself experienced something that is as yet unexplained? |

From: Chief Chaos Date: 14 Jun 06 - 03:07 PM One night in Wilmington, NC my wife and I were awakened from a dead sleep when something on our roof gave out a screech. It was very loud, long and scary as hell! I've heard some pretty strange animal noises in my time and this wasn't one of them. No, I don't know what it was. Neither I nor my wife had any interest in going out to look. If there had been some long hair strands and footprints I'd have been ready to believe it was one of those critters. By the way, Louisiana has a cat(man) monster in her swamps. I heard a similar story in Wilmington, NC. |

From: Rapparee Date: 14 Jun 06 - 10:18 PM My wife's uncle spent 35+ years in the National Forest Service, stationed out of Redding, California. From his house you could see both Shasta and Lassen; his knowledge of the woods around there was pretty danged thorough. He said that he'd spent too much time in the woods not to believe in Bigfoot. He also said that he'd seen evidence of such a critter himself, but what it was he never said. His wife, who grew up in French Gulch, was also sure of Bigfoot's existence. |
Subject: RE: BS: Yeti, Sasquatch, Yowee, Other Hominoids. From: Little Hawk Date: 14 Jun 06 - 10:50 PM People, particularly the usual sceptics, will show up here just to vent their favorite prejudice....as if they KNOW. ;-) I don't know, but I think it's an interesting possibility that such a creature as the Sasquatch may exist. If any of these creatures do exist, however, it will be in their best interests if most of humanity goes on believing that they don't! Human beings are bloody dangerous to other lifeforms, and it's better if they don't believe in them, because then they will tend to leave them alone. |

Subject: RE: BS: Yeti, Sasquatch, Yowee, Other Hominoids. From: Wolfgang Date: 17 Jun 06 - 11:30 AM It is a particular pleasure to see Little Hawk posting as a prototypical skeptic: I don't know, but I think it's an interesting possibility that such a creature as the Sasquatch may exist Well posted, you don't know and as long as one does not know one can consider possibilities as much as possible. The perfect skeptic withholding final judgement without convincing evidence. And the evidence provided up to now is far from convincing. Is it possible? Of course, yes. Is it probable? Not really. New mammals are still detected every couple of years. The latest I have heard of was just last week: picture The last mammal of the size of Sasquatch, however, was detected about 100 years ago: the okapi. The following argument by Little Hawk, however, I consider thoughtless nonsense: If any of these creatures do exist, however, it will be in their best interests if most of humanity goes on believing that they don't! This argumentation completely forgets that at present and since many decades hunting or similar activities are not the greatest danger for the survival of wildlife. The greatest danger is destruction of habitat which happens more likely if humans don't know what they do. So if humanoids would exist anywhere (I would be pleased very much if they did) in the interest of their survival I would hope we found them soon. Wolfgang |
Subject: RE: BS: Yeti, Sasquatch, Yowee, Other Hominoids. From: Rapparee Date: 17 Jun 06 - 11:45 AM Dead on, Wolfgang. The encroachment of people, for farming, lumbering, housing, agriculture, industry and recreation has for many years been more of a threat to wildlife than hunting (I'm talking about legal, regulated hunting, not the kind jerks do). Kinda reminds me of what the US did the to the indigenous population, also known as "Indians". "The land is yours as long as the grass shall grow and the rivers run.*" *Unless we want it for farming, settling, gold or other mineral mining, railroads, roads to other tribes' lands, or just because we want it. |

Subject: RE: BS: Yeti, Sasquatch, Yowee, Other Hominoids. From: Little Hawk Date: 17 Jun 06 - 01:48 PM I was making a philosophical statement, Wolfgang. A little bit of wry humour about humanity, that's all. Do you ever philosophize? Picture this hypothetical scenario, for example: An American hunter shoots a real, living sasquatch and hauls it into Portland, Oregon on his pickup truck. The press gathers en masse and photographs the dead sasquatch. Scientists come and confirm that it IS a newly discovered species of ape-like ceature. CNN does a full report on it that evening. National Geograhic does a cover article on the dead sasquatch in their next issue. Everybody now knows that there are most certainly more sasquatches out there...wating to be observed, photographed, and hopefully caught alive and taken to a zoo or facility for closer observation. So what happens next? I'm telling you that it would not be good for those sasquatches at all if that happened. No sir! It would be much better for them if most people went on believing they didn't exist. Humanity is dangerous to other lifeforms. That was my philosophical point. |
Subject: RE: BS: Yeti, Sasquatch, Yowee, Other Hominoids. From: Rapparee Date: 17 Jun 06 - 03:51 PM So, a hunter shoots a sasquatch and brings it into Vancouver or Edmonton or Banff or Moosejaw or Ft. Liard or Carcross or Atlin. How is the reaction going to be different from that you posit for Portland? Remember too that people in some African countries (to the dismay of Chongo, I'm sure) eat chimpanzees. |
Subject: RE: BS: Yeti, Sasquatch, Yowee, Other Hominoids. From: Little Hawk Date: 17 Jun 06 - 04:07 PM I don't see that the reaction would be any different in those other places, Rapaire. (???) What's your point? Yes, Chongo is very angry about that. But then, he usually angry at human beings about one thing or another. |

"Everyone" loves chimps but they're vicious hunters and will pack hunt a fellow ape to chow down on... they haven't got those big canine teeth for decoration you know! As for Sasquatch - he's alive and well and living in some remote part of Dorset - I know because I dated him way back in 1987. He's a clear foot and a half taller than me and furry all over. His manners were appalling then and was only interested in procreation. Hopefully he's mellowed a little. Or at least invested in a flea collar. LTS |
