Subject: Mauron Fête de la Musique 17th June From: Kara Date: 14 Jun 06 - 05:05 AM Hi Here is France we have a thing called Le Fête de la Musique. This is traditionally ( for the last 25 year) the 21st of June. Lots of towns an villages have that day a free music day. This has now spread. So as not to have the Fête the same day as the next village these Fêtes are spread out over the whole month of June. I ahve seen this year La Fête de la Musique advertised from the 3rd of June to the 30th. Here is the picturesque market town of Mauron we have gone for the 17th of June. All the details of the festival are here hope you can make it. If not tell me what are you doing for La fête de la musique this year? |

Subject: RE: Mauron Fête de la Musique 17th June From: JennyO Date: 17 Jun 06 - 04:39 AM Hi Kara. Your link was a little bit broken so I fixed it (I changed hmtl to html) Here it is. Whereabouts is Mauron in relation to Paris? Your post really makes me wish I could be in France again for this National event, but unfortunately, I'm a long way away, in Australia. My brother is a musician who lives in Paris, and I have visited him 3 times, so it may be possible some time in the future. This year he is visiting me - in about 4 weeks time. I was there in June of 2001, and was not even aware of the existence of the Fête de la Musique until he told me about it. I can't remember where we went exactly, but it was somewhere not far away, and just in this one area which was a quadrangle enclosed by buildings, there was such a variety of wonderful music happening - amazing numbers of hurdy gurdies and accordions, dancing, choirs, and a huge group singalong which would have rivalled a Middle Bar session. They passed out sheets of words, all in French of course, and people shared them. It was so much fun! And all the while, we were aware that these things were happening all over the country. There was even a little taste of home in one corner - a group of young people were playing didgeridoos. I think every country should have something like this! Bonne chance! Jenny |
Subject: RE: Mauron Fête de la Musique 17th June From: Kara Date: 20 Jun 06 - 12:54 PM Hi Jenny I think every country should have it too. Saturday went really well in Mauron which is a very small country town that has never had a proper Fête de la Musique before, but it really was great. Tomorrow is the real big day the 21st of June and we will be playing in Redon, which is about 5 hours drive from Paris, but that is nothing by Australian standards. Went to a really good one on Sunday in a little town called Paimpont there were about 20 bands on of every style possible. Since it's conception 25 years ago the rate participation as a musician is nearl 10% of the population of France. Oh and thanks for fixing the link. regards Kara |
