Subject: BS: What eventually happened to WILSON ? From: GUEST,Beachcomber Date: 12 Jun 06 - 07:20 PM Following on from the "Alf Tupper" Thread , who remembers what, about Wilson. Remember the gaunt athlete of indeterminate age who, regularly, used to jump on to the track , from the crowd of spectators, having shed his long, black overcoat, to run on in his old, black, one piece running suit that was greening with age ? An exhaustive search (yes I used Google also) yielded no trace of his career or records.I also recall that he was a student of Yoga who visited Tibet on a regular basis. Is there enough information available to warrant a movie biog perhaps? |
Subject: RE: BS: What eventually happened to WILSON ? From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 12 Jun 06 - 08:42 PM From this page: THE TRUTH ABOUT WILSON: William Wilson was born at Stayling village in 1795. At the age of 14 he ran away, and determined to improve his physique beyond normal, lived wild on Ambleside Moor. There he met a hermit who passed on to him the secret of long life. First recorded sighting of Wilson was at the British Summer Championships held at Stamford Bridge, London in 1938. At these Championships, Wilson leaped over the barrier onto the track, just before the start of the mile race; Wilson won the race running the mile in just three minutes. Up to the start of the war in 1939, Wilson's athletic feats at home and abroad astounded the world. During the war he served in the Royal Air Force as a Spitfire pilot. After winning 25 air victories he was shot down in the Battle of Britain. After the war he devoted his skill and knowledge to helping wounded and disabled men back to normal at an Army Convalescent Hospital. Wilson next took on the task of finding and training men to represent Britain in the 1948 Olympic Games. He next penetrated into the African Congo, alone, and discovered an ancient Greek civilizationan African Athens. He competed against the picked Greek athletes of this secret city. Following this, he then pitted his astounding athletic skill against Chakas black athletes. Wilson saved Africa from warfare to which the Zulu leader was bringing the country. As a supreme test of mental and physical powers, Wilson set out to conquer Mount Everest. And that site has some chapters from Wilson stories. Mind it doesn't answer the question what happened to him. I'd imagine he's still around and will turn up again some day. |

Subject: RE: BS: What eventually happened to WILSON ? From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 12 Jun 06 - 11:07 PM Well, to answer the question about the Wilson of whom robomatic, fogprince and Ebbie spoke, he floated upon the currents of the world's oceans until being swept into the Gulf of Mexico in September of 2004, just in time to be picked up by Hurricane Ivan. Ivan's winds blew poor Wilson some fifty miles inland of the storm's landfall point along the Florida-Alabama coast, impaling him upon the cross-member of a utility pole near Brewton, Alabama, where he was found by a utility repair crew replacing broken electrical cable. Alas, by the time he was found Wilson had suffered multiple punctures ad lacerations and was totally deflated. All attempts to resuscitate him failed. Funeral services were held at the landfill north of Brewton near Interstate 65. |

Subject: RE: BS: What eventually happened to WILSON ? From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 13 Jun 06 - 06:03 PM Wilson and Superman both emerged into the public view in the same year, 1938. They make an interesting contrast. I think I'd prefer a world in which Wilson with his quirky individuality and his scorn for modernity was the more respected figure. A later hero with quite a lot of similarities who got rather more attention was Kwai Chang Caine, the hero of the 1970s Kung-Fu TV series played by David Carradine. |
