Subject: Lyr Req: Fathers Song (sung by Wizz Jones) From: My guru always said Date: 27 May 06 - 05:50 AM I heard this beautiful song last night, it's a very touching lullaby and I've already forgotten who Wizz said had written it. I've been a-googling this morning & already know that it's NOT the one by Matt Redman. Can anyon point me in the right direction? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Fathers Song (sung by Wizz Jones) From: The Borchester Echo Date: 27 May 06 - 06:08 AM I think you might mean Ewan MacColl's Father's Song: http://mysongbook.de/msb/songs/f/fathsong.html Wizz Jones also has a self-written autobiographical song about his own father, Burma Star, which I keep meaning to transcribe. If that's the one you'll have to wait for a bit. Unless someone else has already done it. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Fathers Song (sung by Wizz Jones) From: The Borchester Echo Date: 28 May 06 - 06:15 AM There's a short sample here of Dick Gaughan singing it on A Different Kind Of Love Song,Possibly more suited to learning from (as opposed to DG's highly individual phrasing) would be James Patterson's rendition on Patterson Jordan Dipper's Flat Earth. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Fathers Song (sung by Wizz Jones) From: Stewie Date: 28 May 06 - 09:35 AM Andrew Murray has an beaut rendition of it on his excellent 'Hell or High Water' album - White Cow Music WCM001. --Stewie. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Fathers Song (sung by Wizz Jones) From: GUEST Date: 30 May 06 - 10:10 AM Had the pleasure of Dick Gaughan singing this last time I went to see him after I mentioned it to him when chatting at the interval. I think he plays it in DADGAD if I remember. If this is any help I play it in DADGAD and it approximates the way Dick Gaughan plays it though it's quite a bit different from how he plays it. Can augment it with harmonics at 12th and 7th frets First line D - 000200 C - 032000 D - 000200 Second line F - 330200 G - 550400 D - 000200 Third line G - 550400 ? - 101000 D - 000200 A - 000220 Fourth line C - 032000 G - 550400 from memory... |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Fathers Song (sung by Wizz Jones) From: nutty Date: 30 May 06 - 11:50 AM I have the song sung by Ewan MacColl on a Best of MacColl and Seeger LP. I'm sure that the song is sung unaccompanied. |
