He was 88 yrs old. He wrote some of the most perfect bar room jukebox songs, including "Driving Nails in my Coffin", "I Love You So Much It Hurts Me" and "Slippin' 'Round".

Willy Nelson said Tillman was one of his biggest influences.

Very sorry to hear this. He was huge. Had an almost sarcastic baritone crooning style. A pioneer in the field of electric honky tonk and cheatin' songs, which brought greater fame to followers like Webb Pierce and Faron Young.

Of course there could be some who get Floyd Tillman confused with Tillman Franks.

I believe Jerry Irby was the composer of, and first
to record "Drivin' Nails In My Coffin".

The song was recorded later by Ernest Tubb, Floyd Tillman
and many others.

Jerry died in Houston in the 1980s

You are right, Gene. I didn't know about this thread, so recently posted a full obituary in this other thread in which it notes Irby's authorship of the song.

An extremely singular voice and singing style. Once heard, never forgotten. I came to like his voice. Sorry hear this news.
