It's a bit of a secret, but I am here to tell you that Whitby isn't the only East Coast town with a folk fest! This year I took it in for the first time ever, and was bowled over by the friendliness of the locals, visitors, performers & organizers. Amongst the line up where Joe Stead, Kimber's Men, Rachel & Becky Unthank,Zuba,Synergy, and Australia's own Kitto, (she rocked, luvly version of Big Yellow Taxi).
Topping the bill were some unknowns called Something CARTHY & Wotsername WATERSON. Just a little sea fest! Come Next Year! July 16th - 18th 2004. See you there, I hope!

Sounds great. Was Richard Grainger there? the man composed a wonderful song about Scarborough fishermen, called.......you guessed it....."Scarborough Fisherman." Please tell us details. How were the concerts/workshops, etc.

Scarborough Seafest was blessed by good weather. There were quite a few hostelries involved this year. The Leeds Arms (thanks for the sandwiches!) The Jolly Roger, Lancaster PH. Turk's Head.

It was great to sing on the "The Grand Turk" again. The last time we sang on this fine vessel was in Brest.

We didn't get a lot of opportunity to see many of the other artistes, but we enjoyed "Blues" singer, Nicky Mitchell.
Among the others, we caught Matt Armour singing a fine selection of his own songs. It was heartening to see youngsters like Rachel & Becky Unthank strutting their stuff regardless of audience size or singing in front of pub regulars. It was nice to see Eddie Walker again. Keiron Means and Helen Pitt (without Steve) were the others that we managed to see both turned in excellent performances.

An enjoyable weekend!

hiya,
We had a great time. The audience was a real mixture of people from the scene to the passing grannies and granddads. I really liked it, so good to play in public. The smelliest dressing room ever though (the fish dock...groo)!
