Subject: Obit: Alan Cormack of Bristol, UK From: cyder_drinker Date: 16 Jun 03 - 11:44 AM This message forwarded on from Dave Rowlands of "Gypsy's Kiss": Alan Cormack, concertina player, singer, member of The Old Fox Band, sailor, artist, etc and stalwart of many Bristol folk music sessions, sadly died in hospital a few days ago. He had been suffering from heart trouble for some time. There is a to be a 'green' funeral at the Woodland burial site near Rudgeway, South Glos, on the afternoon of Thurs 26 June. A tree will be planted to commemorate him. I will inform you of directions and time when I receive more details. Everyone is welcome. This is to be followed by a wake, which is very much what Alan would have wanted. This is to be on Thurs 26 June at the 'Nova Scotia' pub, Alan's 'local'. The Nova Scotia is in Cumberland Basin, Hotwells, Bristol. The landlord is very pleased to be involved, and he is happy to host all Alan's friends and fellow musicians, as Alan was well-known there. Please come along either as a musician or just a friend to celebrate Alan's life. Bring your instruments and voices for a mighty music session. Spread the word to those who knew Alan, and would like to be a part of it, as I don't have everybody's e-mail address. This applies especially to friends & musicians in the Bath area. For those that want, the idea is a seamless move from the funeral to the pub, so start whenever you like. The landlord is applying for an extension (till midnight). Dave Rowlands |

Subject: RE: Obit: Alan Cormack of Bristol, UK From: TheBigPinkLad Date: 16 Jun 03 - 03:59 PM I didn't know Alan but it sounds like you're giving him a great send off. I had some happy times down in your neck of the woods, first with the Bath Blues Festival at Shepton Mallet in 1971 then over the next few years with one of my favourite bands, Stackridge. There's still a few rhubarb thrashers around, perhaps they'll turn up and give Alan a farewell tune. Best wishes. |
