We were at Willy Clancy Week way back in 1990. Last year we went to Miltown Malbay (not during WC Week) and tried to find two pubs important to singers, to wit, Gleason's and McCarthy's. We got lost a lot but we're pretty sure we passed both of them and neither one is a pub anymore. Is that correct?

Miltown is a very different place outside the Willie Week! Gleeson's has a weekly session with set dancing on Sunday nights. McCarthy's , I think, only opens occasionally at the best of times. One of my more bizarre experiences in Irish Music is to leave a session in McCarthy's about two in the morning, well satisfied after a good night's singing and a few tunes, - and meet traffic heading out to the same pub to start the night in earnest!

As a matter of fact, I'm on my way there this year. I'll be in Scotland in June & July playing at a festival in Skye and doing some research in the Western Isles. When it's done (probably 7 or 8 July) I'll make my way to Ireland and Miltown Malbay!   

I'm quite excited about it, will there be a Mudcat contingent?

I've been known to be in sessions during the Joe Mooney summer school and find myself having breakfast in the pub without leaving the session from the night before! FAB!

Walking home with the birds, and then straight off to singing lessons til 12, then collapse and a sleep until it all happens again! What a week!!!

Just heading out the door for the first session of this years willie. A lot of the early arrivals go to the BLONDE's on the thurs night. so there we will be and the its loads of tunes for almost two weeks. If any of you are coming over... ENJOY... And sure we might have a few tunes.

We will be there is year 2004 at least for the last weekend and Monday. It would be nice to be able to have play - any advice on where to go and when - or indeed where not to go - would be very welcome?
