Subject: Lyr Req: Welcome to West Texas
From: GUEST,Jennifer Burdoo

Hey, looking for something for my Dad. He needs the lyrics to a bluegrass song called "Welcome to West Texas." I found a CD online with the song, but I don't know if it'll include the words. I think it's by Flying Fish Records, by Alan Munde and Joe Carr. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Jennifer

Here's my transcription of a 30-second sound sample found at Yahoo! Music.

...your spit or it'll hit you in the eye.

Welcome to West Texas. There's music in the air.
Dust clouds, a tornado or two. No tellin' what's up there.
Well, the wind outside is howlin'. Coyotes cry in fear.
Welcome to West Texas. You're gonna like it here.

I think the song was written by Joe Carr. The lyrics are easy to make out on that Youtube link.

Between this and the post of a few minutes ago, this will supply the lyrics.

I think the song was written by Alan Munde and Joe Carr, but no guarantee on that.

Welcome to West Texas (as sung by The Purple Hulls)

Welcome to West Texas
There's music in the air
Dust clouds, a tornado or two
No telling what's out there
Well, the wind outside is howling
The coyotes cry in fear
Welcome to West Texas
You're gonna like it here

You wake up in a dust storm
At noon it starts to rain
A front blow through at quarter past two
At three it's sunny again
The wind picks up a little
You see a house go flying by
Be sure to watch your spit
Or it'll hit you in the eye

Here comes a big blue northern
It's lookin cold and dense
In the morning grab an icepick
Chip the livestock off the fence
If you don't like the weather
Just wait an hour or two
Yesterday's high was 95
This morning is 22

Be sure to nail those windows shut
Stuff paper in the cracks
Cowboys pull your kerchiefs up
May the wind be at your back
Don't worry 'bout breathing dust in
Scientific research show
West Texas dust is so big
It won't fit in you nose

Welcome to West Texas
There's music in the air
Dust clouds, a UFO
No telling what's up there
Well the wind outside is howling
The coyotes cry in fear
Welcome to West Texas
You're gonna like it here

Welcome to West Texas
You're gonna like it here

END
