Subject: RE: BS: buying a gypsy caravan From: GUEST Date: 07 Apr 03 - 09:13 AM I saw one advertised in Thames Valley Trader (car ads) magazine a few weeks ago - don't know if it was still available. The photo looked lovely, very trad. So they obviously are about. Have you tried looking around on the internet for an owners club (if such exist)? |

Subject: RE: BS: buying a gypsy caravan From: Gervase Date: 07 Apr 03 - 09:39 AM ...there's also the Gloucester Wheel & Carriage Co, here. I've not seen their work 'in the flesh', but I read a magazine piece about them a few weeks ago and the quality looked superb. |

Where he comes from, nobody knows, Nor where he goes to, but on he goes. Be warned, Guest, don't do anything that involves the permanent care and maintenance of horses. They are worse than kids. |

Subject: RE: BS: buying a gypsy caravan From: greg stephens Date: 08 Apr 03 - 08:54 AM If you do buy one, avoid inviting any Kurdish musicians for a visit. Lat weekend I took some Kurdish friends to see some other friends with caravans for a bit of a cookout and music. unfortunately the rather exuberant Kurdish visitors succeeding in breaking both shafts of a bowtop. Highly embarassing to all, it cast quite a damper on the proceedings and the dancing stopped for several seconds. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: buying a gypsy caravan From: Dave Bryant Date: 09 Apr 03 - 04:49 AM Perhaps it's understandable that many Kurds are feeling a bit exuberant at the moment. |

Subject: RE: BS: buying a gypsy caravan From: GUEST Date: 09 Apr 03 - 06:25 AM yes it is understandable! |

I tell ya what... how about you give up just what you lot took in war, ie: all the petrol products, every little plastic do dad you've got... then tell me Romany people and Pavees steal. Give us a break, ya raker. Baxt hai sastimos, lor PS Good luck on getting a voodron\wardo... Guest... do take Cyril around a little in it, so he gets another view of the world. The view from Wicklow might be a little limited. |

Subject: RE: BS: buying a gypsy caravan From: GUEST,the real me Date: 16 May 06 - 10:29 AM I thought we took care of Cyril's type at Nuremburg. Looks like they saved Hitler's brain after all. A very calm, measured response, InOBU, considering the provocation, although such psychotic snarling isn't worthy of any reponse. (I know; I'm responding ... ) |

Subject: RE: BS: buying a gypsy caravan From: NH Dave Date: 16 May 06 - 12:28 PM I found this at http://www.poetrylibrary.org.uk/queries/faps/#24 Pedlar's Caravan This poem is by Walter Brighty Rands (1823-1880), and can be found in The Book of a Thousand Poems (published by Peter Bedrick Books in 1983), The Oxford Book of Children's Verse (OUP, 1973) and The Poolbeg Book of Children's Verse (Poolbeg, 1987). The Pedlar's Caravan I wish I lived in a caravan, With a horse to drive, like a pedlar-man! Where he comes from nobody knows, Nor where he goes to, but on he goes. His caravan has windows two, With a chimney of tin that the smoke comes through, He has a wife, and a baby brown, And they go riding from town to town. Chairs to mend and delf to sell -- He clashes the basins like a bell. Tea-trays, baskets, ranged in order, Plates, with the alphabet round the border. The roads are brown, and the sea is green, But his house is just like a bathing-machine. The world is round, but he can ride, Rumble, and splash to the other side. With the pedlar-man I should like to roam, And write a book when I come home. All the people would read my book, Just like the Travels of Captain Cook. William Brighty Rands Dave |

Subject: RE: BS: buying a gypsy caravan From: InOBU Date: 17 May 06 - 03:42 PM They? Cyril? Daithi Joyce, the Barrister, a proud Traveller, former head of litigation for the ITM in Dublin? They? Tom Sweeny who organised in England so that halting sites could get mail and education? They? My mate Jack Gorman, a one man ITM movement for America's some 60,000 nomadic American Irish Travellers... They? Bernadette Deviln McCalisky? They? my friend Paddy Keenan? They? The Fury Brothers? They, You use the word "Gypsies"... so do you also mean Romany people? They? Ron Lee the Romany lawyer in Canada, They? the lingusist and activist Dr. Ian Hancock? they... me mum? Who would I mean if I said they... about you? It is very hard to navigate the world with rose colored sunglasses when you are struggling to keep Romany people from being sterilized against their will in Eastern Europe - today, from being murdered in every nation... women and children for the crime of being born Traveller or Romany ... working to stop the many arrests in the US on false charges to investigate communities which have been branded criminal subcultures by ignorant folks like you, though, the few honest studies - as pointed out by the Tarrant County Texas prosicutor's office points out, show no greater amount of crime than the general population. Well, let's call every murder, every robbery committed by your lot, Irish crime. Even better, all the crime by non-Romany people, Gadzhicane crime... pin every act from Caligula to George W Bush on your poor shoulders... Look Cyril, why don't you take the racist glasses off and join the human race, mate. Nyes tuka, (to the real me...) Jal a rakasa Cyril Baxt to all, lor |
