Subject: Wootton Session - is it dead
From: GUEST,BLoke in the Corner

I've just come back from the Nag's Head in Wootton, North Lincs, scene for a number of years of a regular 'First Sunday in the Month' session, and no-one else turned up. I went there in Feb and again no-one came, I wasn't here in March, but the barmaid said no-one hsd turned up then, either.
I certainly feel the welcome since the current landlord took over last year has been less than warm, but wonder why suddenly everyone has stopped coming. We did have some really good sessions there a year or so ago. And I thought the people from the Wootton fiddle club came.
Any ideas/reasons anyone? And any thoughts on a replacement venue?

Hi Laurie what time did you leave? Eamon & I arrived at approx 9.30(due to other reasons)and also found the place empty, apparently according to Eamon, Max went last month and found the same situation but also heard a rumour(unconfirmed)that the present landlord may be moving on.I've also been informed by Mike&Val that they won't be coming again due to fact that the new attendees(?)are all smokers & they prefer a less smokier atmosphere. Do you think its worth me reviving the monthly e-mail reminder or is it time to move on? it so where?

Gerry

I don't know, Gerry, perhaps the session has run its natural course, though I can't think of anywhere local. Will you be at the Brigg Fiddle Fest or Yorkshire Gathering? If so, see you there.
Lawrie

It seems so hollow to announce it now, as the shocking news about Sue's death has yet to sink in, but perhaps we could (certainly us South Bankers) dedicate the first new Wootton session to her. It was at Wootton that I first met Sue, probably five years ago. I apologise if this gesture seems silly, but I am still struggling to understand how her not being around is possible. 49 years. Jesus.

Obviously I got this organised before I heard the dreadful news, so I won't prattle on about the background to the session moving. Suffice to say that the Wootton session will now be held in the Six Bells in Barrow Upon Humber, on the LAST SUNDAY of the month (no longer clashing with the Sun aftermath). The first one will be NEXT SUNDAY, the 27th April 2003. It will start at 8pm.

Will some kind Cottinghamite please tell Val & Mike the session has moved? It ain't exactly smurk-free, but if less of you kippers puffed away, it'd encourage a few more of us puritanical types. However, I don't want to discourage Nikki from rolling those seegars on her thigh.................

No Gerry, but I saw Max at Goxhill last week, and mooted the change with Carol, who was all for it. I'll make sure she tells Max accordingly.
