Subject: BS: Kazell Kat - Gentleman to the end From: katlaughing Date: 28 Mar 03 - 01:41 PM Allow me, please, good folk, to share a little sorrow. I come to you because I know there are those among you who understand the love and familial feelings we have for our four-legged friends. This morning I had to take one of the Beige Bros., Kazell, to the vet to have him put down. I am not sure how his twin, Charlee, will take it, but it had to be done. He had a cancerous growth at the back of his throat which was inoperable and prevented him from eating for the past week or so. He was a quiet and unassuming cat, until it was time for fishie, at which point he would sing at the top of his lungs. Always first in line and singing so sweetly! He was very independent, never demanded lap time, but enjoyed the odd petting and would purr at the lightest touch of a finger. In our other house, where the commode was next to the bathtub, he'd come in and get upon the edge of the tub and prance back and forth, purring and rubbing up against my hand. Nice company! Today, he sounded croaky and he had a bewildered look in his eyes. Still he was fairly quiet and accepting as we waited for the vet to come into the room. As I held him on the table for the vet to start the IV, he curled up on his side, just like we did at home. I cooed to him, calling him my "Kaz-man" and "Kaz-man-du" and telling him how much I loved him and what a good and brave kitty he was, that all of the pain would go away now. He began to "make biscuits" in the air with his front paws kneading away, as he used to do at home, while I held his head in my hand and rubbed his furry cheek. As he slipped away he purred as loudly as ever, so trusting and grateful, a gentleman as always. I shall miss him, another beloved gone. Thanks for letting me share this. It helps with the sadness. luvyakat |

Subject: RE: BS: Kazell Kat - Gentleman to the end From: Big Mick Date: 28 Mar 03 - 02:26 PM A big ole Mick hug to you, dearie. I will never forget having a kitten with an attitude, who came down with feline leukemia, put down. The poor vets assistants..........they had to watch this huge man with a wee, grey kitten just crying his eyes out. You gave him a loving home, and a wonderful partnership. Bless him and you. Mick |

Subject: RE: BS: Kazell Kat - Gentleman to the end From: katlaughing Date: 28 Mar 03 - 06:35 PM Thank you all, dear friends. I knew you'd understand. I took a short nap this afternoon and Charlee, who always sleeps near my feet during nap-time, came up beside me and purred me to sleep. I think he knows his twin is okay now. Not exactly the way I wanted to mark my half century, but it couldn't be helped.:-) Thanks, again, luvyakat |

Subject: RE: BS: Kazell Kat - Gentleman to the end From: Rustic Rebel Date: 29 Mar 03 - 05:34 PM So sorry to hear about your pain. A very sad thing to loose a member of the family. Hugs to you Kat. My old cat died a year or more ago. It's strange because she was around so long, 17 years, that I still look for her at times expecting her to be around. It's a hard thing but having other animals around, helps. Love, Rustic |

Subject: RE: BS: Kazell Kat - Gentleman to the end From: Padre Date: 29 Mar 03 - 09:20 PM Kat, here is a comforting message - for all of us who love animals whose life is shorter than our own. Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... Author unknown... Padre |

Subject: RE: BS: Kazell Kat - Gentleman to the end From: katlaughing Date: 29 Mar 03 - 10:17 PM Thank you, Rustic and Padre. I love that Rainbow Bridge one..always good to read it when one of them moves on. We had a fairly okay night, last night. Charlee is a bit of an air-head and always cries in the night as though he is long lost and can't find home. Last night, he was even more so, cried quite a bit and looked all over the house for his twin brother. He finally settled down and we got some sleep. He also took another nap with me, today, so I think he's going to be okay. It's just so sad for them. Thanks to you all, very much. luvyakat |

Subject: RE: BS: Kazell Kat - Gentleman to the end From: Bardford Date: 30 Mar 03 - 03:38 PM Sorry to hear about this, kat. I'll give our cat a little extra chinscratch today and hold a good thought for you all. 50? |

Subject: RE: BS: Kazell Kat - Gentleman to the end From: katlaughing Date: 30 Mar 03 - 06:35 PM Thanks, very much, gnu and Bardford. Bardford, yeah, can ya believe it? I cannot...just don't feel any particular time on the calendar. I like Ruth Gordon's question, "How old would you be if you didn't know how old you are?" I think I am still holding at about 35...:-) All of my cats have been extra special sweet to me the past couple of days. It has realy helped to hear from all of you. Thank you, again kat |

Subject: RE: BS: Kazell Kat - Gentleman to the end From: Tinker Date: 31 Mar 03 - 08:29 AM Pausing with wistful reflection.... It's been five years since we said goodbye to Sabrina, a twenty two year old grand dame who travelled with me and watched me grow up from college crazy to mother of four. My husband and two boys are allergic, so cats are no longer in our household. But they are very sorely missed. I'll be looking for some catnip to add to the garden...they have their own peace and blessings... Kat |

Subject: RE: BS: Kazell Kat - Gentleman to the end From: jeffp Date: 31 Mar 03 - 08:58 AM kat - so sorry to read of your loss. I'm sure Kazell is grateful to you not only for your care and love, but for you being kind enough to grant him release as well. I'm sure everybody (including you) will be a bit needy for a while until everybody gets used to it. Love each other and you'll get through it. Hugs, jeffp |

Subject: RE: Kazell Kat-Gentleman to the end & Buddha Bell From: katlaughing Date: 02 Dec 06 - 04:48 PM Well, Charlee, Kazell's twin, lasted over three years from the passing of his brother. Today, I took him to the vet for a final journey. Until recently when he just couldn't groom as well, he had a pristine white belly and would roll over to have his "buddha belly" rubbed at night. He knew that phrase and would curl his front paws while I rubbed it and he'd purr to beat the band. He had been poorly the past six months as we treated him, hit or miss, for thyroid problems. Hit or miss because he was very timid and would hide out to keep from taking his tablets. He also had some secondary problems which were getting worse. I just woke up this morning and knew this was the day. His quality of life had gone down and the struggle was bad for both of us. He was the ultimate sweet love cat; always purred. There he was on the vet's table, head tucked up against me as they shaved his hind leg to insert the catheter for the release of drugs into his system, purring the whole time. He purred the loudest with his last breath. It seemed a beautiful and typically "Charlee" way to let me know it was okay I'd made the decision for him. All the while I rubbed his buddha belly and told him I loved him. It seems strange after 20+ years of at least 3-8 cats in our household, to be down to two. I shall miss Charlee, but I know he is better off. Thanks for listening. luvyakat |

Subject: RE: Kazell Kat-Gentleman to the end & Buddha Belly From: Elmer Fudd Date: 02 Dec 06 - 06:10 PM Sorry for your loss, Kat. Love for an animal is an unambivalent love without any of that pesky baggage that comes along with loving another human. So the mourning can be an all-out, no-holds-barred kind of heartbreak. Virtual hands (or paws) across the internet. Elmer |

Subject: RE: Kazell Kat-Gentleman to the end & Buddha Bell From: LilyFestre Date: 02 Dec 06 - 08:55 PM (((((Big hugs for you))))))))))))) We had to do the same for my beloved Ellie in the spring. It was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do, and most loving for my Ellie as I'm sure it was for your kitty too. I'm so sorry. Michelle |

Subject: RE: Kazell Kat-Gentleman to the end & Buddha Bell From: katlaughing Date: 02 Dec 06 - 10:31 PM Thanks, folks. I just realised, Charlee was the last of my New England kitties; the two left are both from Wyoming. When we lived back East, we counted off the years by how many WY cats we had left. Three of them made the journey from the WY prairie to New England village and back in ten years. kat |

Subject: RE: Kazell Kat-Gentleman to the end & Buddha Belly From: catspaw49 Date: 04 Dec 06 - 10:27 AM Aw geez kat.......I am so sorry. Nothing replaces old friends but tw isn't enough. Wish we were closer......Sloop is just incredibly spoiled and would be perfect for you. 'Then again, we couldn't give up the little dude. Charlee had a fine life like my old boy Cutter but like dogs, cats, even old ones, just don't live long enough. Big hugs Spaw |
