Subject: RE: Sessions in Oxford? From: GUEST,silverfish Date: 25 Mar 03 - 11:26 AM I hear there is a trad session in the (I think ) Port Mahon Pub - I'm sure if you contact the people at "The Music Room" in Oxford they will be able to help you. |

Subject: RE: Sessions in Oxford? From: GUEST,Peter from Essex Date: 25 Mar 03 - 05:05 PM You could have a look at The South Midlands Session Guide It is well out of date but the contacts should be useful. Details of Oxford Folk Club at the Port Mahon here As a general rule, to find out anything about the English folk scene start here |

Subject: RE: Sessions in Oxford? From: Alasdair Date: 26 Mar 03 - 08:44 AM Cheers for that Peter and Silverfish. I was actually looking for more of an informal an especially irish/scottish session. I had heard a while ago that there was one at either the Lamb and Flag or the Eagle and Child, but never followed it up... Al |

Subject: RE: Sessions in Oxford? From: Ian Date: 26 Mar 03 - 09:33 AM Try the Half Moon (Wed & Sun eve) Session St Clements Also Killingworth castle Wooton near Woodstock out of town for a range of instrumental though mainly Irish. Pick up a copy of Shire Folk at TI office or Port Mahon on Friday Though many of the sessions listed don't happen. |

Subject: RE: Sessions in Oxford? From: Mr Red Date: 26 Mar 03 - 03:05 PM As far as I know the South Midlands Session Guide is way out of date and the link is broken right now. I took it off my site because of that. cresby.com lists some and there are plenty of contact numbers. The Half Moon is a good bet. There are sessionist up near Wootton but last I heard Killingworth Castle was a Fri bar music and once a month they had folk. The telephone number I had failed last time I checked. Shirefolk is a good place to look. Bob Lloyd is probably still the contact there. |

Subject: RE: Sessions in Oxford? From: Herga Kitty Date: 13 Sep 04 - 05:12 PM Agree about the Fir Tree when Phil and Mandy were the tenants, but Half Moon probably the best bet now.... (Ian Giles, Jon Boden, Ian Woods, etc) Kitty |
