FEAR NOT, OH MUDCAT WE HAD A MINI-MINIFEST AT OUR HOUSE YESTERDAY FROM 3:00 PM TO 1:30 AM. Yes, yes, we had an all day sing.
There was great music all day and lots of food and fun and stuff. Jed sang many a song as did Songster Bob and Momandpop and CarolC played her accordian and Jack the Sailor was there. MMario sang beautifully. Rita Ferrera played her amazing zither - harp and sang "Tenting on the old camp ground",and we had great celtic harp and fiddles and viola. Susette played the banjo and autoharp and sang Foggy Mountain Top and we got the harmony yoddles pretty good, and TJ O'Malley and Julie played and sang until we got too tired to lift a pick. And more folks and I just can't tell you all the fun we had. We ate up huge quantities of seafood gumbo and red beans and rice, until Jed said "My God, why are we eating more!".

We sang 5 or 6 parting songs and reluctantly parted. This morning we've got 6 or 7 inches of the foot of snow headed to Silver Spring. There's icy conditions to the south and heavy snow to the north, so we might just have to keep Jed for another day. I don't know if the mini-mini will continue today, but I've got more beans for red beans and rice and plenty of beer and life is good. Y'all come on over we'll make some more music. Chance

Damn. I think I may be all sung out. Can't begin to express how grateful we are to Jed, TJ & Julie, and Chance & Suzette for providing wonderful music, a place for Jed's concert, and a place to PARTY when the Minifest was canceled!

Chance

It was truly wonderful to just sit in your living room and absorb the incredible talent oozing out of every pore of every person there. I was in heaven.

BTW, it's MOM N OPP -- I'm a mom (only) and the beginning of my last name is "OPP" - hence mom 'n OPP (and the genesis of JudyO).

Peace and music,

JudyO

we generate heat, Willie-O...;>)) ...and usually, the weather doesn't slow us down...we would have gone ahead with the Mini-Fest if we had been at a private facility, as we have been in years past.., but the public school system declared that it's facilities were closed!

All I can say is that Chance and Susette came through for a great mini-mini fest. I missed the concert the night before, but had a wonderful time last night playing 'til the hard cider did me in ;-). I just sit back in the corner and follow along with my banjo uke, but it truly was amazing to hear Chance, TJ, (guitar), Ted, Bob Clayton (Guitar and banjo), Ron Davies (viola) David Scheim (harp), Lucy Goldberg (violin), Susette (autoharp), and Rita (zither harp), passing around the lead. MMario, Judy, and Lucy also sang wonderfully, and Julie always plays a great bass! CarolC and Jack the Sailor stopped by for a little bit and she was able to get in one song on here Accordian, before they wisely set out to "Beat the storm". I just wish I could have stayed longer.

Thanks again Chance and Susette.

JAB

It were fantabulistic!

I was *strongly* tempted to get "snowbound" - but to tell the truth I probably was better off driving today with the good visibility and low traffic conditions I had then the possibility of worse conditions later - or even "normal" traffic. (I don't *like* expressways, I do not like them sam-I-am!) Three hours added to a seven hour trip really isn't that bad!

MANY thanks to the hosts (and participants)of both Friday and Saturday nights mini-mini-fests; and to CarolC and SailorJack for allowing me to follow them around the city (heh-heh- I didn't have to try to figure out where I was - and then Rita let me follow her back to the house saturday night!)

And I have to highly reccomend the EXCELLENT housing and hosting at Chez "D"!!!!

Me too MMario. I thought they mentioned that they were going to the Eastern Shore. If so, I'm pretty sure they made it, but who knows when they will be able to leave. I understand there were blizzard conditions further up towards Delaware.

JAB

P.S. Fortunato, how did you get the fire trucks to plow your street? We are only one street over, and haven't seen hide nor hair of a plow.

GUTBUCKETEER, I DON'T KNOW WHY SIX FIRE TRUCKs WENT PAST MY HOUSE. THE RUMORS OF A FALSE ALARM ARE ALL DIRTY LIES, I SWEAR. WITHOUT THOSE TRUCKS WE WOULD NEVER HAVE GOTTEN JED OUT OF WOODMOOR.

Yup! We arrived at all of our destinations safely and not too much the worse for wear. Thanks for asking, MMario.

We got to Maryland's eastern shore Saturday evening. It was difficult to tear ourselves away from that superb jam session, but we were glad we got to where we were going ahead of the storm. Spent a lovely couple of days snowed in at the home of some old friends of mine. Waited until the the governor's executive order banning all travel on state maintained roads was lifted on Monday, and headed back to Leisure World in Wheaton thinking we would spend the night there and leave for home on Tuesday.

All of the parking areas were snowed in at Leisure World, so we headed south toward home Monday evening. Stopped for sleep in Richmond Virginia at around 11:00 PM and hit the road bright and early Tuesday morning. Got back home here in Georgia last night at around 8:00 PM.

We had a great time at Jed's concert and at the little bit of jam session we attended on Saturday. Thanks, Chance and Susette, and the O'Malleys, for being such excellent hosts. It was great seeing already met friends again, and getting to meet some new ones as well.

I just got back to Dallas about 3PM today. Not a bad drive, once I got outta MD. It tried to ice a bit, going through Virginia, but I managed to stay on the road and ahead of the bad weather. The snow had been pretty well cleared on the Interstate - and by the time I reached TN it was smooth sailing!

It was a great weekend; music to remember! What a treat. I do believe I played every somg Chance knows, and then some. Some really fine music sessions, even if the mini-fest didn't happen.

I'm already looking forward to my next trip back yer way!

Great, Jed, thanks for letting us know you got home OK. Glad the drive was relatively decent.

And thank you for being generous enough - or crazy enough - to stay and party Saturday instead of heading home before it snowed :-) There were several folks besides me, I believe, who had more fun last weekend than we could have if the Minifest had gone on as planned!

This was a very special get-together, because Jed, Nan Goland, Dick & Susan, MMario, CarolC and Rob, Marv and Cathy Reitz were all in town just for the minifest and/or Carol's sister's wedding.

Dick & Susan hated to miss the Saturday fun, but Dick had a Sunday flight out of Newark Airport to catch. Did he make it, Susan? Or did they close the airport?

Well, people are already asking me how soon Jed will be in the area again. Someone told me the Getaway (October) isn't soon enough.:) I guess this past weekend was another example of What Hath Mudcat Wrought, huh? Mudcat and FSGW together, that is. A great combination.

Rita, aka Ferrara
