Subject: To Your Health...Honey and Vinegar From: GUEST,Sandy Creek Date: 13 Feb 03 - 08:14 AM Being a chap in the 40's I was introduced (as most of you were) to "Home Remedies". The best "cure all" was given to me by my Grannie Charlotte Simmons...Honey and Apple Cider Vinegar mixed with Apple Juice. In a quart jar mix... 1. 4 oz raw honey 2. 4 oz apple cider vinegar 3. 8 oz juice of your choice Shake or stir thoroughly until honey is dissolved (heating honey for about 30 seconds in the microwave helps), drink about 4 oz daily (about the same time each day). The benefits are numerous. Vinegar is great for weight loss (it is included in many programs) and removes toxins from the body. It helps prevent indigestion and acid reflux. Honey is renown to be a highly effective naturally medicinal and healthful element. If you are taking this combination...please post your comments. If not, give it a try. |

Mixed with water (luke warm to dissolve the honey). I put it into a squeeze/sport bottle & sip throughout the course of the day. DB. |

Subject: RE: To Your Health...Honey and Vinegar From: Alice Date: 13 Feb 03 - 09:20 AM I used to believe in drinking vinegar and honey years ago, but I don't now. They are foods, not cures. Be careful about drinking acid. |

Subject: RE: To Your Health...Honey and Vinegar From: Rapparee Date: 13 Feb 03 - 11:20 AM Back to what's-his-name's book "Vermont Folk Medicine" or some such (had general anethesia yesterday and my mind is, ah, less than on), published in the 1950s. My mother had a copy, tried the medicines, quit. Why? Vinegar caused hyperacidosis. The honey was okay, though, but too expensive for folks as poor as we were. |

Subject: RE: To Your Health...Honey and Vinegar From: mack/misophist Date: 13 Feb 03 - 11:37 AM This particular nostrum is ancient; found, I believe, all over the western world. You might note that the Roman armies avoided most plagues by never drinking water. They were issued vinegar instead. |

Subject: RE: To Your Health...Honey and Vinegar From: the lemonade lady Date: 13 Feb 03 - 11:46 AM My daughter (19) has aching knees and blames it on years of appalachian dancing. Some days she can hardly walk at all. The medics say (after many tests) that it's 'growning pains'!! They said she has no deposits of calcuim on her joints and then prescribed Glucoseamine, which is for removing deposits of calcuim in the joints! She finds she's very affected by the air pressure and changes in the weather. I shall suggest she tries honey and vinegar and see what happens. Sal |

Subject: RE: To Your Health...Honey and Vinegar From: Bagpuss Date: 13 Feb 03 - 11:53 AM Ms Lemon, when he was in his teens, my brother had terrible pains in his knees too, and they were described as "growing pains" at first. Turned out to be Osgood Schlatters disease - which affects young athletes/dancers. The treatment is mainly to rest/ do less high impact exercise. Maybe your daughter should ask if this is a possiblity - especially if she is still growing. This is a site I found on the subject. Bagpuss |

Subject: RE: To Your Health...Honey and Vinegar From: katlaughing Date: 13 Feb 03 - 11:59 AM I have done this off and on over the years. On, at the moment, for about the past month and a half. I always feel better for it, plus if you use local honey, consistently, it will help with any pollen, etc. allergies. I drink an 8 ounce cup of almost hot water, with 2 teaspoons of Braggs raw, organic apple cider vinegar with two teaspoons of local raw, unfiltered honey stirred in, three times per day, about 30 minutes before a meal. kat |

Subject: RE: To Your Health...Honey and Vinegar From: Kim C Date: 13 Feb 03 - 12:11 PM Back in the old days, people used to drink a concoction called switchel. On very hot days, it is good to drink because it replaces electrolytes. You can make up a concentrate of it with honey, vinegar (apple cider or raspberry), and a little ginger if you want. Mix a couple of spoonsful into a glass of water, and voila! Trust me, it really is tasty, and very refreshing on a hot day. |

Subject: RE: To Your Health...Honey and Vinegar From: Steve Parkes Date: 13 Feb 03 - 12:22 PM I was told years ago by a card-carrying member of the Wicca that it would be good for my hair if I put honey and vinegar on it. I never worked out if she was winding me up. But I always got a seat to myself on the bus. Steve |
