Subject: Review: To sell -- or how to sell! From: DaveP Date: 10 Feb 03 - 08:43 AM Well likw many others who read this I have written afew songs over the years. Some have been popular and some not in local folk clubs. A sample is in the mudcatters song book - "The Princess of Wester Sion". One mudcatter has performed this, and I am grateful for that. A few of my songs have been covered by local folkies so they can't be that bad. The thing is I'm putting together a CD of about 12 songs. Done at home using the trusty 200MHz P1! A few people are interested in buying this locally. But how can one reach a wider audience. the proposed price is £3.00 Sterling a copy, why be greedy! I'm not the Worlds best singer and my aim is to show the songs off - not the singer. Help anyone? |

Subject: RE: Review: To sell -- or how to sell! From: Genie Date: 10 Feb 03 - 10:07 PM Dave, I'm certainly no expert. In fact, I pretty much have the same questions as you and come from the same place (not the world's greatest singer or guitarist). My impression, though, based on what I've seen and heard of various people's songs over the years, is that it really helps to have a recording of the song done by someone who really IS a great singer and/or to have an impressive back-up track (e.g., several instruments, harmonies, etc.) A truly great song MAY find its way into the hearts of the public without its being performed by a great artist. But there are plenty of mediocre (and some lousy) songs that have become popular and made their way into the collective consciousness because a great performer sang/played them. I've also been told by some folks in the music industry that one way to sell a song is to produce it in sheet music form. That way, your performance skill is not an issue. I definitely want to hear what other folks have to say about this. Genie |
