Subject: Hiring Fairs From: GUEST,Noddy Date: 23 Jan 03 - 04:37 AM The Whitby Folk Festival has for many a year run a Hiring Fair usualy organised by John Prentice. The idea is that acts looking for bookings get a 15 minute slot to do whatever they want . The audience should consist of club organisers and they get a good idea of what an act can do. This year John is holding one at the Saddleworth Festival. What I want to know is why dont more festivals do this. It is an ideal way of bringing NEW acts into the open. The standard of performances is very high and at Whitby it is FREE to get in. A large audience is always there. It costs the festival organisers nothing. So come on Festival Organisers if you want to bring new young acts into folk this is a must. You know it makes sense. |
