This is a very beautiful song, and I hope there is a place for it here. As sung, it has a great deal of melodic ornamentation and would be v. difficult to MIDI - even for someone a lot more skillful than I.

FEATHER DOVE
(Traditional)

Oh, were I like the feather dove,
And innocence had wings, I'd fly,
And make an __ remove,
From all these restless scenes.
I would to some wild forest go,
And find a peaceful ho-me,
Where storms of malice never blow,
And sorrows never come.

The birds fly o'er the sun's bright face,
While I must here on Earth remain,
Or shall my fortunes lie,
On the highest mountain crown,
I would my dreams of wealth forego,
And find a peaceful ho-me,
Where storms of malice never blow,
And sorrows never come.

Sung by Helena Triplett on Green are the Woods. The liner notes state: "I learned this beautiful fragment of a Baptist hymn from Freeman Van Gilder, recorded by L.W. Chappell in 1939." "Beautiful" is a fair characterization of the song.
