Subject: BS: Phil Donohue is a whiner From: DougR Date: 04 Jan 03 - 12:50 PM Anyone know a worse talk show host than Phil Donohue? He treats his guests like they are idots (unless he happens to agree with them). I heard his show is going to be cancelled. Evidently there aren't enough liberals in the country to support a liberal leaning talk show. DougR DougR |

Subject: RE: BS: Phil Donohue is a whiner From: catspaw49 Date: 04 Jan 03 - 12:56 PM Doug, I agree with you. For me it has zip to do with his politics and everything to do with his style. He has always driven me nuts. Why anyone brought him back is beyond me. Spaw |

Subject: RE: BS: Phil Donohue is a whiner From: GUEST Date: 04 Jan 03 - 12:59 PM Aw DougR, are you feeling left out because everybody is bashing yer man Rush? Frankly DougR, it has nothing to do with Donohue's abilities or style. The progressive left is looking for substance, not sytle, and is intelligent enough not to get their news and information from right wing media outlet's talking head shows, like the one on MSNBC you mention. In fact, most progressive left people I know don't even watch much television, much less get their news and information from it. |

Subject: RE: BS: Phil Donohue is a whiner From: Peg Date: 04 Jan 03 - 05:10 PM yes, I have to agree this thread is just a lame attempt to get back at anyone who said anything about Rush Limbaugh in the other thread. To set up some sort of dichotomy or parallel between the two of them is wrong-headed...one of them claims to be a POLITICAL analyst/commentator (who osted a talk radio show) and the other a TV talk-show host whose show was generally more interested in social issues... |

Subject: RE: BS: Phil Donohue is a whiner From: GUEST,/bec Date: 04 Jan 03 - 05:50 PM So does it all come back to you, then? Maybe it just has to do with the fact that Phil Donohue IS a whiner. The man is loopy and paranoid. |

Subject: RE: BS: Phil Donohue is a whiner From: mack/misophist Date: 04 Jan 03 - 05:57 PM May I suggest to you all that the absolute best way to get programming on television to improve is to do what I do: read. I'll make allowances for the sports addicts, they are sick and need their fixes. But despite the Discovery Channel and A&E and their ilk, TV is un-necessary. And all the best bits are at the local video store, anyway. |

Subject: RE: BS: Phil Donohue is a whiner From: Clinton Hammond Date: 04 Jan 03 - 06:03 PM "despite the Discovery Channel and A&E and their ilk, TV is un-necessary" Bollox! Give me more channels, with even less and less on them... I WANT Real TV, and Robot Wars... Wild On and Big Brother... I want the illusion that even -I- could be a PopStar! I want to be able to use Picture In Picture to watch 2 infomercial channels at the same time... It's the real world now, the information flying through the ether... it's wrapped in plastic, and it smells like Febreeze... Get used to it, or get out of it... |

Subject: RE: BS: Phil Donohue is a whiner From: Troll Date: 04 Jan 03 - 08:29 PM Donohue was a whiney trendoid when he had his TV show many years ago and he hasn't changed a bit. troll |

Subject: RE: BS: Phil Donohue is a whiner From: catspaw49 Date: 04 Jan 03 - 08:42 PM Clinton, you are the epitome of what is wrong with our culture. Wanting more TV is bad enough but wanting more of it with a total lack of any meaningful knowledge and devoid of the tiniest bit of redeeming social value marks you as the person you truly are. The programs like Robot Wars and Real TV that you mention are the basest of the base and reach new nadirs of sordid content. BTW, did you see that numbnuts try to ride that friggin' moose? And how about that high mountain skier who fell over 5000 feet? Say, do you think we could get a sponsor for a robot? I have a great idea that ought to be a winner............... Spaw |

Subject: RE: BS: Phil Donohue is a whiner From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 04 Jan 03 - 11:07 PM Is this the same Phil Donohue who I vaguely remember seeing on daytime TV something like thirty-five years ago? He's still around? Well, unless he's changed a lot over the years, I'll have to agree with DougR. A wiener is a wiener regardless of the color of his stripes. (Not particularly good shootin' there, Doug, just a real easy target.) Bruce |

Subject: RE: BS: Phil Donohue is a whiner From: Ebbie Date: 04 Jan 03 - 11:36 PM Is it true that men, per se, prefer act-and-damn-the-consequences figures rather than analytical, thoughtful males? Do men prefer a simple black and white world with one-trick-charlies vying successfully for gorgeous but one-dimensional women as depicted in Bond movies to that of a complex society where it is frequently difficult for people- including men- to know the proper course, given that there are multiple paths, all of which may pass through pain and uncertainty, a world where there is no single best road? Do men acknowledge and accept that this is a world where people- includiing men- cry alone in the night? |

Subject: RE: BS: Phil Donohue is a whiner From: CarolC Date: 04 Jan 03 - 11:51 PM I miss Dick Cavett. He was the only good talk show host there ever was. Bill Moyers is good, but he's not, strictly speaking, a talk show host. |

Subject: RE: BS: Phil Donohue is a whiner From: DougR Date: 05 Jan 03 - 01:56 AM I'm pleased to see so much agreement on this thread. Nice to be in the majority for a change. Yep, that's the same Phil Donohue, Bruce. Peg, you are SO suspicious! :>) DougR |

Subject: RE: BS: Phil Donohue is a whiner From: Hippie Chick Date: 05 Jan 03 - 09:35 AM "It's the real world now, the information flying through the ether... it's wrapped in plastic, and it smells like Febreeze..." It's NOT the real world. it is the world foisted upon us by Hollywood and Madison Avenue. It is what the pundits and producers choose to let us see. The real world lives in your neighborhood, in your city, shares your planet. The real world is too harsh for a lot of pansy-types - they'd rather forget child-prostitution rings and domestic violence and American jobs sold overseas and people dying in gang wars. It's time to wake up and smell the culture we've created. Not pretty, but it's 'real'. |

Subject: RE: BS: Phil Donohue is a whiner From: Clinton Hammond Date: 05 Jan 03 - 02:01 PM " It's NOT the real world." It's as real as any other interpretation of the world... "are the epitome of what is wrong with our culture" Screw you, you arrogant ^%&*-sucker! "the basest of the base" One will never go broke, playing to the lowest common denominator... |

Subject: RE: BS: Phil Donohue is a whiner From: catspaw49 Date: 05 Jan 03 - 02:36 PM Yeah, yeah, yeah, CH....But what about some funding for the robot idea? We could kick ass with it! Spaw |

Subject: RE: BS: Phil Donohue is a whiner From: Clinton Hammond Date: 05 Jan 03 - 02:46 PM You sure it's not too 'benieth' you??? LOL |

Subject: RE: BS: Phil Donohue is a whiner From: Ebbie Date: 05 Jan 03 - 02:59 PM Kendall, all that saying that proves is that YOU are not shallow. Or, come to think of it, I guess shallow men could be proud of the fact? :) |

Subject: RE: BS: Phil Donohue is a whiner From: CarolC Date: 05 Jan 03 - 04:23 PM Hey DougR! At least us "liberals" notice when the Right Wing American Media Propaganda Machine gives us insipid fools to represent our side. You guys don't even notice that they've given you a bunch of, brainless, foul mouthed, bags of wind. ;-) (...oh!! Did I just say that?) |

Subject: RE: BS: Phil Donohue is a whiner From: DougR Date: 05 Jan 03 - 05:15 PM CarolC: Well, I agree with half of your statement. :>) DougR |

Subject: RE: BS: Phil Donohue is a whiner From: Cluin Date: 05 Jan 03 - 06:57 PM Makin' friends again, eh Clint? Good to see some things don't change... *LOL* But I agree with you. Everybody should stay home more and watch more TV and go out less to see live musicians. This is after all the information age, right? "What do you think, caller?...." "What? It's Marshall McLuhan on the line?... Quick, Look busy!" |
