Subject: Mandolin Q--Get Up John From: GUEST,Vixen@Work Date: 30 Dec 02 - 08:32 AM This one's for you, Mando'Cats! Reynaud's learning "Get Up John" from a Bill Monroe recording, and is wondering if anyone knows how he (Monroe) gets the effect of two mandolins playing simultaneously. Do any of you folks play the tune? V |

Subject: RE: Mandolin Q--Get Up John From: BTMP Date: 30 Dec 02 - 02:26 PM I retune my mandolin as follows: Lower one of the E strings all the way down to A (same as second strings), and the other E down to D. Raise one of the G strings to A, lower the other G string to F#. I think this is the same as Monroe's tuning, but there are some variations out there. Ricky Skaggs' version of the song is quite good, also. Hope this helps! |
