I'm considering the Swannano Gathering this next July in North Carolina. The "Old Time" week is my choice. The 2003 line-up includes: New Southern Ramblers, John Herrman, Gordy Hinners, Phil jamison, Brad leftwich, Tom Sauber, James bryan, Rayna Gellert, Sheila Kay Adams, Alice Gerrard, Ginny hawker, Tracy Schwartz, Ron peen, Bill Diloff, paula bradley, dave Rice, Skip Gorman, Mike fenton. zBill Dilloff, paula bradley, Rodney Sutton, Tom jackson, carl jones, wayne Seymour, jaune drucker, Mary jane Queen, vernon and Ruth Riddle, Bobby McMillon, Robert Dotson, Will Keys, Roan Mtn. Topers, etc.

Anyone had any experience with this program? Recommend?

I LOVE OT week at SG!! Have gone several times, and it's great. Ginny and Tracy's classes are not to be missed, and the jammin' is fine. I notice Ralph Blizard's name isn't listed in your post--nor Wayne Erbsen's or Laura Boosinger's-- and they've always been there. I wonder [does anyone know?] about Ralph's health...And there's no more beautiful setting than Warren Wilson College.

I thought BB had said he was going to be there- but maybe that was MLAG.

Ah, Swannanoa-- Irish week is wonderful too, but I'm gettin' too old for the pace of it!!!

Wanna borrow my trash can?

PS:

Swannanoa travellers should consider a stop in Orange County, NC along the way. Gig? Place to crash? The company of NC Mudcatters to break up the trip? All can be arranged...

New Southern Ramblers are Ralph Blizzard's outfit. Right?
I wish we could go. It's just a short drive so we might get there for a little jamming.

Swannannoa Gathering Old Time week is 20-26 July 2003.
The website is HERE, but it's well out of date - I hope they update it in plenty of time to book, because I'd like to get there. It leads very nicely up to Clifftop week.
Cheers
Ray

It actually gives the dates as 21-27 July, which is Monday to Sunday, but this year's dates were numerically the same, ie Sunday to Saturday, so I wonder if there's a typo in the 2003 dates?

I'm thinking it's always that third weekend in July, and it does begin on Sunday.....and I believe they usually update the website in January, so maybe soon it'll be up soon.

You Swannanoa Veterns, what's the experience like? Must one do the whole week? Is there a couple of days we could rally around? Is there 'picnic ground' picking where we could jam? Places to stay?
Camping?

Not only did I get my new computer set up today [mostly], but I got my Swannanoa newsletter as well. OT week is July 20-26. Bryan Bowers IS teaching autoharp. Ralph Blizard has had some heart problems, but should be back on staff next summer. Read the website at my first clicky!

The experience is great! The "instructors" are so accessible, and the jammin' is fine. The fees are for the entire week, so you'd want to be there. The Gathering is on the campus at Warren Wilson College, and you stay in the dorms, eat in the cafeteria-- conducive to more jammin'. But not to sleepin'! There are special events/concerts every night- the scenery is gorgeous...

Sheila Kay, and Mike Seeger will be back, along with most of the regulars I mentioned earlier.

Just thinkin' about it makes me wanna' be there...
