Subject: Xmas Sess, Sun Inn Beverley, 22nd Dec From: The DeanMeister Date: 18 Dec 02 - 04:22 AM Hello people. This has been mentioned elsewhere but I have been asked to create a thread to make it more obvious. We were contemplating the Sun Inn in Beverley this sunday 22/12 at 2pm to have a jolly spot of ale and song, carols, daft songs, tunes and whatever else takes your fancy. Kieth I believe is supposed to be running a session at 4pm so if we get there a couple of hours earlier we'll have the spot well warmed up for him in advance!! Bassic says he's coming, I'm sure Ossonflags will be up for it, maybe Nik Nak and Smallpiper, not sure who else, though I have heard that Noreen was contemplating paying us a visit from out of town with some of her friends if the session is definately on. Les and Maggie have also confirmed attendance. Please could you let me know wether you can make it or not guys, so I can confirm that we will be there? Thanks a lot! Merry Christmas everybody! Pete |

Subject: RE: Xmas Sess, Sun Inn Beverley, 22nd Dec From: GUEST Date: 19 Dec 02 - 04:28 AM I'll drop in at some time in the afternoon - not sure whether I'll get there for 2pm. In response to the earlier question, Keith's 4pm start normally runs to about 7 or 7.30. KwameD are playing there in the evening and will be setting up around 8pm.To continue playing in a session after that time travel down the road a couple of hundred yards to the Oddfellows. |

Subject: RE: Xmas Sess, Sun Inn Beverley, 22nd Dec From: Les from Hull Date: 20 Dec 02 - 02:02 PM Old Father Christmas used to be a jolly Green bloke. It's only the 'merican one who wears a red frock. |

Subject: RE: Xmas Sess, Sun Inn Beverley, 22nd Dec From: brid widder Date: 20 Dec 02 - 08:13 PM apparently Santa only started wearing red because of a Coca -Cola Ad in the thirties...... before that he wore fur coloured fur! |

Subject: RE: Xmas Sess, Sun Inn Beverley, 22nd Dec From: Noreen Date: 20 Dec 02 - 09:48 PM brid, and others: This legend is not true. Although some versions of the Santa Claus figure still had him attired in various colors of outfits past the beginning of the 20th century, the jolly, ruddy, sack-carrying Santa with a red suit and flowing white whiskers had become the standard image of Santa Claus by the 1920s, several years before Sundlom drew his first Santa illustration for Coca-Cola. Subject: RE: Xmas Sess, Sun Inn Beverley, 22nd Dec From: Les from Hull Date: 21 Dec 02 - 03:47 PM Santa Claus is a recent edition to British Christmas celebrations. It seems that he gets equated with Father Christmas, but I reckon that they are different traditions that have become amalgamated. |
