Subject: Lyr Add: ROUND RYE BAY FOR MORE From: masato sakurai Date: 25 Nov 02 - 08:08 PM Isn't this the song? ROUND RYE BAY FOR MORE (sung by Johnny Doughty on The Voice of the People, vol. 2: My Ship Shall Sail the Ocean, Topic TSCD 652) 1. We'll go round Rye Bay for more, my tars, Round Rye Bay for more. And when our money's all spent and gone, We'll go round Rye Bay for more. 2. South of the buoy down Rye Bay way That's where I lost my trawl, and did I swear the other day? Old Crusty he told me that I shouldn't stray South of the buoy down Rye Bay way. 3. So we'll go round Rye Bay for more, my tars, Round Rye Bay for more. And when our money's all spent and gone, We'll go round Rye Bay for more. 4. More, More, Round Rye Bay for more. And when our money's all spent and gone, We'll go round Rye Bay for more. ~Masato |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: round rye bay, i can't find the lyrics ! From: GUEST,MCP Date: 26 Nov 02 - 06:40 AM Just a note on the tunes - verses 1 and 3 are sung to what sounds to me like a slow version of Outward And Homeward Bound (in DT), verse 2 to South Of The Border and verse 4 to Land Of My Fathers. The notes (by Mike Yates) with the Johnny Doughty LP say: "Round Rye Bay for More, similar in sentiment to the better known Go To Sea Once More, is a local composition that closes many an evening pub sing-song in Rye. 'Old Crusty', who makes a fleeting appearance in verse 2, was Henry Daniels Crampton, a local skipper who died, aged 64, in the early 1960s". with Bibliographic reference: Peter Kennedy Folk Song To-day volume 1 (nd). (The song follows While Going Round The Cape after a short spoken interlude by Johnny, so it's not clear if the reference covers Round Rye Bay For More or only the While Going Round The Cape, which Kennedy collected a version of and is referred to in the notes for it).
