Subject: RE: Lyr Req: song about Okanagan Valley From: reggie miles Date: 22 Nov 02 - 07:33 PM I have an acquaintance who has written some stuff about that area of the state, but it sounds as though you may be looking for something more popular. Or am I wrong? Woody has written some songs about the Columbia. I haven't heard of one his written about the Okanagon Valley but it may not be out of the realm of possibility. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: song about Okanagan Valley From: Haruo Date: 28 Nov 02 - 09:19 PM Doing searches, be sure to try the variant spellings Okanogan, Okanagon, etc. Settler-folk usage vs. First-Nations usage, and north of border vs. south of border, preferences vary, but you may find something under a spelling you hadn't thought of. I'm inclined to bet there's something Okanaganian in Linda Allen's Washington Songs and Lore which your local library probably has if you're in Washington State (and if not, they can likely get it anywhere in North America through Interlibrary Loan). Subject: RE: Lyr Req: song about Okanagan Valley From: sed Date: 29 Nov 02 - 01:12 AM Haruo, I think you found it! I believe it was on a CD sent me or the radio station by Linda Allen. Now, to find it and listen again. It's so hard to keep the CD library in order as it's in three different places, miles apart. Thanks again, folks! Steve |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: song about Okanagan Valley From: GUEST,hankc@methow.com Date: 29 Nov 02 - 01:16 AM The Ian Tyson song "Four Rode By" tells the story of the outlaw McLean brothers, who in the 1870's terrorized the Okanogan and Okanagon Valleys (the Americans and Canadians spell it different). Unfortunately, the song never MENTIONS the Okanogan. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: song about Okanagan Valley From: Jon Bartlett Date: 29 Nov 02 - 04:11 AM I can't find anything Okanaganish in Linda Allen's "Washington State and Lore" or any mention of the Okanagan in the index. Phil Thomas collected one song mentioning the place: "She Was Bred in the Okanagan (Where the Salmon Come to Die)" but I'm sure it's not the song you're looking for. Jon Bartlett |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: song about Okanagan Valley From: sed Date: 01 Dec 02 - 03:08 AM Jon, I don't know. In this rattletrap of a brain I've got that might be it. I like the sound of the name: Okanagon: nockin' noggins in Okanagon; rockin' robins in Okanagon. There are so many beautiful place names in the Americas, which reminds me of a song, Cherokee Names, by Gary Greene of Rome, GA that mentions the beautiful names left especially upon the waters of Alabama and Georgia by the Cherokee. Though vanished they left their names on the land and water. Praise God I found a bit of North Carolina Cherokee in my own blood from way back in the 1760's! It's enough to be proud of anyway! A little info on Gary via: http://hometown.aol.com/grzlygreen/myhomepage/index.html but I think he has a newer homepage somewhere. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: song about Okanagan Valley From: Larry The Radio Guy Date: 18 Jul 13 - 01:52 PM Here's a song about the Okanagan valley. http://www.library.ubc.ca/music/bcmusic/htmpages/ogopogoslonesome.html I am also aware of a very hard to find old lp on Aragon (Roy Forbes introduced me to it) called "Blue Okanagan" that has that song plus other written songs about the Okanagan. |
