- anything particularly interesting happening between Christmas and Feb 10th? There's yet another Ryanair deal (you can buy tickets till Monday night (18th) and the period for flights is Dec 1 - Feb 10). So I'm wondering if there's anything I could head off to. Any suggestions? Preferably near to Shannon or Dublin.

Hi, by the way - this is my first post here.. :-)

HelenR, Welcome...

Could you give me more information on Ryanair? I have usually traded with Sceptre Tours out of New York (sceptreireland.com) which have had pretty good deals in the past. But I am always on the lookout for good bargins to the Ol' Sod...

If you can raise Fibula Mattock, Ella (English, but a regular vistor), or any of the other folks from Ireland, they can give you the most up to date happenings. And frankly I feel a need to go myself, so I hope they come up on the MC. Good Luck!

There is the Frankie Kennedy winter music school in Donegal, over New Year's. I've not been there, heard from others who have attended that is great, with workshops, concerts and sessions. Members of Altan are involved in the organization etc.

Hi Claymore

I don't know if Ryanair are any good to you, from the States. They seem to be Europe-based. Have a look on their website - www.ryanair.com (urls are allowed on here, aren't they? Sorry if not!)

They had another deal recently, I got tickets from London to Shannon for 22 pounds, return, and went to the Ennis Trad Festival as a result. I should be feeling guilty about all that air pollution, though, I suppose! :-/ Hard to resist those cheap flights, though...

Thanks Sharon - I know about the Frankie Kennedy School and would *love* to go, but don't have any leave left - till January. I plan to go there next year though - I haven't done anything special at New Year for ages...

RyanAir does not service the USA, I suppose they are being encouraged to develop the European market.

There are lots of great deals out of odd places like Los Angeles and Chicago as well as the obvious Boston, New York etc. Of interest in the south, Atlanta Huston etc.

For the benefit of anyCat willing & able to take advantage of the Fab Ryanair offers, all you need to is register on their website & they'll start offering you the most amazing deals. The prices they offer you by email are guaranteed & not 'first come first served'. And no, I don't work for them.....

So HelenR, have fun - I've a load of regular sessions marked down someplace, but you'd need a car to get to them as I've always concentrated on the Shannon itself.

Our Cats in Ireland hopefully will notice this thread & help you out on 'happenings'. Good luck *s*

Sceptre Tours offered a package last year; we flew Aer Lingus from Chicago to Shannon (round trip), got a car, a week of B&B vouchers, and the first night at a motel for US$572 (each). Flying over in 2000 we paid US$750 each just for airfare.

AL is, I understand, currently offering US$99 one way from Chicago, and Sceptre has even better prices than at this time last year.

There are lots of websites listing doings in Ireland....

Thanks Rapaire - which websites in particular? Oddly, I haven't found a really good one for trad festivals.
And thanks, Guru - I'll register on the site. I live quite near Stanstead (well, on the right side of London) so those deals are extra-handy...
